HULL's CULTURAL STRATEGY - YOU CAN STILL HAVE YOUR SAY🌟
Fill in the survey: https://yoursay.hull.gov.uk/hullculturestrategy
Now closing THIS SUNDAY 4th AUGUST - extended from Wednesday 31st July so ignore any mentions of this deadline!

Over the past few months, Hull City Council and various partners, including the University and arts organisations, have been working on developing Hull's new Cultural Strategy, with input from other great cities from across the UK and beyond, including representatives from Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands.

Consultation with partners and the public has taken many forms, with workshops, conferences and focus groups, as well as a public survey has been available since mid-June - this will be closing at the end of the week!

If you haven't had the chance to take part in any of these or share your views just yet, the survey is still available until THIS SUNDAY 4th August. This has been extended from the initial deadline of this Wednesday (31st July), so please ignore any mention of this deadline! Paper copies should also still be available in libraries and council staff will be collecting your views at Saturday's Humber Street Sesh.

We’re so pleased to see the report from the Migration Advisory Committee, which concluded that there is no evidence of widespread abuse of the current system, or negative impact on the quality and integrity of higher education in the UK.
International students are a huge asset to our city and valued members of our communities. They should be and feel welcomed. Read the statement from Universities UK here:

The Migration Advisory Committee has today published its ‘Rapid Review of the Graduate Route‘. The report concludes there is no evidence of significant abuse of the Graduate route, that it broadly has achieved – and continues to achieve – the government’s own objectives, including those se...

…Mark Collinson is duly elected!
Mark’s experience, wit and authenticity make him a great addition to the Lib Dem team.

Thank you to former Cllr and Lord Mayor Steve Wilson for his service to the city and ward - particularly his commitment to improving visibility and rights for LGBTQ+ people in the city. We wish him all the best with his retirement. We also wish Sian the best after a difficult campaign. We have particularly admired her dedicated campaigning to address persistent violence against women and girls in the city; something we’re also very passionate about.

Of course, the locals were not the only elections people in the area voted in this week! Congratulations to the new president-elects and new student reps at HUSU!

Hmmn, interesting! Labour taking credit for this when it was a Lib Dem fund that enabled it and Holly who fought for it in the meeting!

A reminder that Labour ran the council and held this ward for over a decade. They could have funded this then, but they didn’t. It is happening because of Lib Dems running the council and in the ward.

Liberal Democrats have been long urging the Government to negotiate a reciprocal youth mobility scheme with Europe.

Of course the details would need to be negotiated, but no sensible UK government would reject this idea out of hand.

A youth mobility scheme would be a win-win-win:
💷 boosting our economy, especially hospitality & tourism
🚄 offering great new opportunities for young people to live & work abroad
🤝 starting to fix our broken relationship with Europe
