Because of the hot weather and influx of visitors Sergeant Dan Clarke has advised that two of his officers will be present in Pickmere this afternoon and evening but are unable to remain throughout their shift due to demand. I’m advised they have several parking tickets books with them.

Don’t forget to report any parking offences you see by ringing 101.

Our thanks to the police for their continued support.

Picnic Benches at the Lake

Just to inform everyone, we have had to remove the picnic benches at the lake following a safety assessment. Sadly all of the benches had deteriorated and were dangerous so have been removed as they no longer met health and safety standards.

We are very sad to share the passing of Liz Wilkinson, daughter of Steve and Brenda Wilkinson from Dunholme Farm. Her warm, friendly and supportive manner will be missed by many and she will leave a hole in very many lives. As the editor of Pickmere Press Liz made sure the residents were kept informed of news and activities. In her role as Chaplain our thanks went to Liz for leading our first Pickmere Remembrance service. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out the family for their sad loss.

PICKMERE LANE BRIDGE

Perhaps not the news and update we wanted but it is a response to the many requests for information sent by Pickmere PC and our ward councillor Kate Hague. Pickmere Parish council, along with neighbouring councils, are currently preparing an evidence based impact assessment to present and discuss with Cheshire East. Every effort is being made to reach a satisfactory conclusion.

"As of 27 July, Cheshire East are carrying out intrusive ground investigations to obtain the crucial ground information required to assess and develop the bridge replacement options. The findings from these investigations will enable us to review the available solutions and identify a preferred option.

Since the completion of the geophysical survey, we have been reviewing the survey findings and developing the scope for the next phase of investigations. The surveys identified ground conditions broadly consistent with our expectations, including the presence of pockets of artesian water within the area. These conditions present additional challenges and risks for ground investigation works, requiring the appointment of specialist contractors with the appropriate expertise and equipment to undertake the work safely and effectively.

Once an option has been agreed, the project will progress through the necessary technical design and approval processes.

At present, we are aiming to begin construction works in summer 2027. However, these timescales remain subject to change depending on the findings of the ground investigations and any additional measures that may be required as a result."

We will continue to keep you informed as the project progresses and key milestones are reached.

Further information on the scheme is available on the Cheshire East Council website:
