The Parish Council recently received anonymous letters, concerning alleged unregistered business activity from a residential property in the village. The matter was reported to Trading Standards at Central Bedfordshire Council, who investigated and visited the site. They saw no evidence of the activity, and are unable to do more, based on the limited information provided.

Please note that contractors will be on site at the village playground on High St on 1st October to carry out minor repairs to play equipment. Some equipment will therefore be unavailable to use, at times. The playground will, however, remain open throughout.

Here is an update on 2 damaged streetlights in the village.
1. The light on Church St at the end of the passage through to Whitehall is a Central Beds Council light. It was removed in May because it had been damaged and was no longer safe. Since then, with the help of Councillor Saverio Bongo we have been chasing its replacement. We have this week received an update from CBC which reads - Unfortunately, due to issues we have encountered with delivery of street lighting works, we do have a backlog of works outstanding that we are trying to push through as soon as we can. The reference for this order is 8448 and the work is still pending but I am very sorry to be unable to provide you an estimated delivery date at this time. I am aware of the reasons this was a priority and I will raise this again when I have a meeting this week with our contractor to try and see what can be done. I am sorry I cannot offer more certain information but please know that the work is still ordered and will still be completed. Hope this helps for now and as soon as I have a date, I will share it. I realise this streetlight, is very important for pedestrians walking to/from Whitehall.
2. The light at the junction of Millers Lane and Bury Ware. This light is the responsibility of your Parish Council. It was struck by a vehicle in June and had to be removed urgently, again for safety reasons. We were quickly able to arrange a replacement column - at a cost of £945. We now have a quote from UK Power Networks to reconnect and relight it. This comes in at £7500! We are currently actively working with our insurers as to who will pay the connection charge - us, our insurers, or the driver of the vehicle which did the damage.

An update from our ward councillor Saverio on Marston Rd closures. Thanks for your efforts Saverio. Please be aware the weekday vegetation clearance works as per the EWR Letter from 7 September to 25 September Monday to Friday between 9am to 3pm will be done with temporary traffic lights, just in case there is any confusion.

‼️EWR Permissive Bridleway closures – Granary Wood‼️

Residents should have received a letter from EWR/National Rail to inform them of road closures of Marston Road, but we wanted to highlight there will also be Permissive Bridleway closures at Granary Wood. Please see image with details of the closures.

The Parish Council do not agree with this, and we are following this up with EWR, along with the CBC ward councillors.

We suggest if you want to raise this, complain to East West Rail Alliance by phone at 03457 11 41 41 or by email at [email protected]

There is also an App available called EWRA MVLA, which provides updates to the programme of works.

We have invited EWR to attend the next Parish Council, (not confirmed). Residents are welcome to join, Monday 7th September, 7pm at the Church Hall.
