Former Scottish footballer and manager Lou Macari has been appointed an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours in recognition of his outstanding charitable work tackling homelessness.

Macari founded the The Macari Centre in 2016 after becoming increasingly concerned by the growing number of people experiencing homelessness in Stoke-on-Trent. Over the past decade, the foundation has transformed countless lives and has been an inspiration to us at LEAP and across the sector.

This honour is well and truly deserved. Well done, Lou!

LEAP is now managing a property in Central Lincoln, purchased and renovated by the Sincil Community Land Trust (SCLT).

The SCLT is a resident-led organisation that has worked tirelessly to revitalise the Sincil Bank area. Their previous initiatives have included a range of community projects and the creation of pocket parks.

The property, their first, was acquired through grant funding from the City of Lincoln Council, alongside a loan provided by Investors in Lincoln.

Heidi Walton, LEAP CEO, had this to say about the property and the work of the SCLT:

“It has been a real pleasure to support the Sincil Community Land Trust from the very beginning, and I am incredibly proud of what has been achieved through the purchase and refurbishment of their first property."

“We are delighted to have agreed a lease to manage the home and to play a part in supporting vulnerable families within the community. This project shows the positive impact that strong local partnerships can have in bringing empty properties back into use and creating much-needed affordable housing.”

We’ve already had a scorcher of a week, but with the whole summer ahead of us, we thought it’d be best to share some tips on how to stay safe and cool on hot days.

- Drink plenty of water, even before you feel thirsty. Doing so will keep you cool and hydrated.

- Wear suncream even if you’re outside for a short time.

- Keep your curtains closed during the day to stop heat radiating into your room.

- Switch off all unnecessary electronics as they also generate heat.

Bonus tip: A great way to keep your room cool is to only open your windows at night and closing them in the morning.

Do you have any tips for hot days you’d like to share? ☀️🔥😎
