Freedom Hunters for Tamils Statement

We are deeply saddened and concerned by the fatal shooting of a Tamil man by French police in Bobigny, France, on 30 May 2026. Reports indicate that the deceased had been suffering from long-term mental health difficulties.

Freedom Hunters for Tamils strongly condemns any unnecessary or disproportionate use of force and calls for a full, transparent, and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic death.

Every human life has value. Incidents involving individuals experiencing mental health crises require the highest standards of care, restraint, and accountability. The family of the deceased and the wider Tamil community deserve clear answers about what happened and whether all appropriate measures were taken before lethal force was used.

We call upon the French authorities to ensure that this case is investigated impartially and thoroughly, and that justice is delivered in accordance with the rule of law. Accountability and transparency are essential to maintaining public trust and protecting human rights.

Our thoughts and condolences are with the family, friends, and all those affected by this tragedy.

Many Sinhalese people may come to better understand the deep pain and loss experienced by Tamil families during the events of Mullivaikkal, as well as the historical reasons behind the Tamil struggle for rights and recognition. The final phase of the conflict, which took place during the presidency of Mahinda Rajapaksa, remains a subject of intense reflection and differing perspectives within Sri Lanka. Even today, the legacy of the conflict continues in various forms, influencing political and social attitudes across communities.

A lasting peace can only be achieved when all communities work towards mutual understanding, healing, and a shared commitment to preventing such suffering in the future.
