PCS is a member led union.
We can use Trade Union methods to resolve a Trade Union issue.
This is an issue that could be resolved to suit all members.
Ask members if they want a refund or to keep it in the fighting fund.
We will continue to make interest in the contributions in the interim.
Those who want a refund will get it.

As we are likely to not get acceptable pay offers this years we need to revisit the Levy issue - a vital tool to sustain members undertaking strategic strikes for the benefit of all. Clear options should be provided and discussed with members to enable us to fight if we need to, and kept low as possible, whilst promoting the option for those who want to & can to do voluntary fighting contributions.

On Saturday, 22/03/2025 I attended the organised protest against proposed Welfare changes. There was a range of very passionate speakers, mainly from disabled people, and carers. They spoke eloquently on what this means in real terms, to them and others, and how detrimental it is. The news of the intended reform itself has had a harmful impact on many. I spoke also, and advised how stands with them & have been and are vocal about the changes such as in this PCS Article https://www.pcs.org.uk/news-events/news/pcs-response-government-welfare-reform-green-paper Widespread condemnation of government welfare reform plans | Public and Commercial Services Union. Some signs at the protest were calling out DWP. I advised that they have to deliver government policy but DWP members were not in favour of changes and having to implement the many changes in benefits over the last 15 years had a detrimental impact on them, and indeed some are also disabled, some claim benefits too and have to navigate through the system, and they see their friends and family battles with the system too. has published a response to the Governments Welfare Reform Green Paper on 18/03/2025 PCS response to government welfare reform green paper | Public and Commercial Services Union. “PCS members working in Jobcentres want to support people into work and help people to claim the benefits to which they are entitled. Instead, too often they are forced into administrating a punitive tick-box regime that does nothing to support people."

My nomination film. Please note although the booklet states I only have 1 nomination I have been advised I was nominated by at least 1 other HMRC Group & 1 in Home Office, but nominations not uploaded or on time. Not sure if anymore, but this will explain to those in branches who did nominate me at their AGM's why it is not in the ballot booklet, but is in the information sent by your branch on who to vote for.

I was a delegate at TUC NW AGM for TUC NW Black Workers Committee. I am a PCS Rep to the the TUC NW BWC. I am also a delegate now for the TUC BWC to TUC NW & the Rep for TUC NW BWC to the TUC NW Executive Committee. In the past I have been a PCS delegate to TUC NW and been on PCS NW Regional Committee as a member & as a Vice Chair. I am currently Co-Convenor of PCS NW Black Members Committee & attend PCS NW Regional meetings as an observer. (Yes, it can het confusing. The struggle is real :-) ) We need more reps on Regional & Equality Committees! You can get training & facility time to be a Rep, Equality Officer, Union Learnibg Rep, Organiser, etc or as an advocate.
Now for a report on TUC NW AGM 2025.
Format for part of the AGM was different to previous years
The first panel was a discussion on Tackling the far right with Janet Farrar TUC NW Chair, Nick Lowles - Hope Not Hate, Jawad Khan - TUC NW.
2 Motions were to be moved in the discussion& not as usual on the podium. - 1) Unison - End Exploitation of Migrant Workers to help alll workers & 2) TUC NW Black Workers Committee - Stopping Reform. Those moving the motions could take the opportunity to comment on the other motion and panel discussion.
I was the delegate who moved the BWC motion, despite the mic having to be changed 3 times I moved the motion & got points across & had nice applause & lovely feedback. I managed to mention Launch of PCS Safe Routes policy amongst various issues. The upcoming by election in Runcorn & Helsby was a big topic in the debate as well as WTAF is happening in USA. Jennifer the BWC Secretary was there as a delegate for NEU and she also made some great points when she had a chance to speak in the Q & A.
There is a lot oof work ahead for us all for sure. No Pasaran!
I also Seconded the PCS Motion on the National Climate Service - as I was there as a delegate for TUC NW BWC NOt PCS. I was happy to do this as work on the idea of an NCS started when Ii was on the NEC and in the Environment & Climate Change Committee, and because Climate Change needs to be taken seriously, it is a threat to us all. We don't just need to improve the conditions people live in - wr need to improve the planet we live in.
All thIs TU structure explanation is for the benefit of those unfamiliar with it & the who Overstand it, to explain format change. I expect Non TU activists be enthralled at the processes involved lol!
Union members do not fear. Its the reps & delegates who get to do all the reading, writing speaking etc at these things. But as members it is your ideas and issues brought to them that are then made into campaigns. Motions or action! And you can contribute more or step up to be a rep or delegate too :-(

PCS Elections for the NEC are now open & ballots will arrive soon. I was on the NEC 2021/22, 2022/23, 2023/24 & ran as an Independent Socialist in 2024/25 I was delighted to get 3,200 votes. I have been asked by members to stand again this year. Many citing frustrations on issues arising this last year, and some as they want more independent voices in the NEC.

The NEC is often elected by less than 10% of the membership. Every member gets sent a ballot. As a Democratic, member led union you have your chance to have your say, Every year on who you want to represent you.

So please vote - whoever you vote for as your vote matters. Do not assume candidates you support will get enough votes so you don't need to. Every Vote Counts.

Please read the Election Statements that will come with your ballot & choose those who best represent your views. You do not have to use up all your votes. You can vote for the majority of a slate but replace some with others - your choice.

I know and/or have worked with many candidates across election slates and believe the NEC will be stronger with candidates across them all and some Independents to best represent all our members.

If those who voted for me last year do again & 1,500+ more also vote I may get elected based on current turnouts for ballots. However, if more of you vote than usual it enables a clearer picture for the union on the issues important to you.

Not voting can lead to assumptions you are satisfied with whoever is elected, you do not care who is elected, or you have no interest or confidence in anyone up for election.

Thankfully unlike Government you don't have to wait 4 or 5 years for the next election! You get your chance to have your say - every year! :-)

I will be posting updates during and after the election as I will still be an activist either way.

So please consider voting for me in the NEC elections - but please use your vote, even if not for me.
