Is this another hare brained idea- is this not going to hurt some of the people who might vote for them ? Are the business’s going to keep people on if long term sick ? .

Reform and Nigel Farage's plans to slash £50bn from welfare by abolishing PIP and making major cuts to people receiving Universal Credit have been slammed.

Reform say they would implement 'the biggest shake-up of the welfare state in a generation' if in power. It would see almost three million people seeing disability and sickness payments withdrawn or modified.

The party would also abolish personal independence payments (Pip) and the health element of Universal Credit for working-age adults.

But Labour and the Conservatives have slammed the policies.

A Labour spokeswoman said: “Reform’s £50 billion claim is fantasy economics, built on stripping support from disabled people and shifting costs onto employers.”

She added that the Labour Government’s reforms to welfare “deliver credible, independently-costed savings, not arbitrary numbers with no credible plan behind them”.

And shadow work and pensions secretary Helen Whately said the plans were an attempt to distract attention from the investigation into a £5 million donation to Nigel Farage and his “pointless by-election” in Clacton.

She said: “Reform have been nowhere on the debate on welfare reform. They have flip-flopped on restoring the two child benefit cap and claimed they’ll only take benefits away from foreigners, which won’t do enough to bring down the overall bill.

“The Conservatives are on the side of working people and we’re clear about our plans. Restore the two-child benefit cap, end benefits for low level mental health conditions, remove benefits from foreign nationals and restore face-to-face assessments.”

Well said Tracey . Majority of Fire Fighters In Mid & West Wales Fire are retained staff (not full time )like the team at Llandeilo who have been working on this terrible wild fire . Also a big shout to the farming community who rallied around . Thanks also to local business who have given refreshments to the team

Over the last week or so, the crews at Llandeilo & surrounding area have been working tirelessly across the brigade area, answering calls to wildfires alongside everything else that comes our way.
With little to no rest, it’s undoubtedly been one of our busiest periods, and the effort, commitment and dedication shown by everyone to protect our communities has been incredible. 💪🔥

To respond so effectively to the fire while crews were also deployed elsewhere really highlights the professionalism and commitment of everyone involved.

🚜 A huge thank you to our local farmers who stepped in with water tankers and other agricultural machinery when the demand for water and fire breakers was at its highest. Your support, often at very short notice, made a huge difference and was massively appreciated by all the crews. It’s a brilliant example of our community coming together when it matters most.

But none of this is possible without the support behind the scenes.
❤️ To our families — thank you for putting up with the long hours, missed plans and alerters going off at all hours. Your support means more than you realise.
💼 To our employers — thank you for allowing us to leave work at a moment’s notice to answer the call. Your understanding helps us continue to protect our communities.
🏡 And to our local community — thank you for the care packages, donations, kind words and messages. Even a simple wave as the fire engine passes gives us a huge boost. 🚒👋

We’re incredibly proud to serve our community, and we couldn’t do it without all of you. ❤️🚒
