Josie Ewing- Welsh Liberal Democrats Cllr. Josie Ewing 2022-2027
Llandrindod Wells South ward. Powys County council.

⚠️Public Statement⚠️

I have made the decision to resign from my position as County Councillor for Llandrindod South, and to step away from party politics, with the Liberal Democrats.

This has not been an easy decision. Serving the community I live in had been an honour, and I am deeply grateful to every resident who trusted me to represent them.
Also a select few party colleagues, who I have been lucky enough to have had incredible conversations and creative ideas alongside, other councillors that have helped shaped my understanding of politics and broadening discussions in community projects and collaborative development, officers and of course work personnel- i shall miss moaning with so many of you.. 😀

I have listened to residental and staff concerns, stood alongside you, and carried your voices into rooms and meetings- where, too often, they are not truly heard!!
But I cannot continue in a role that, in reality, holds so little power to deliver the change our communities, are crying out for.

Through both my work as your elected County councillor and my own personal experiences with local authority services, I have seen first-hand the impact of a system that many residents feel is failing them and I can only agree 👍

I have heard countless stories — and experienced enough myself — to know that too many people are being let down by outdated frameworks, slow processes, and a lack of meaningful accountability.
Yet, when you try to challenge it — when you try to push harder for answers, fairness, equality and justice — you quickly learn how restricted you are, and what you're "allowed to be." And .. where you position really is.

⚠️I was not elected to be silent.
⚠️I was not elected to accept “this is just how it is.”⚠️

💚Powys deserves better.
💚It deserves transparency.
💚It deserves accountability, and residents deserve quality services to be delivered as expected 👏
💚 I deserved better too!

⚠️Right now, I no longer believe that can be achieved from within this role i hold, or this structure, with out me being held accountable for breaches on my code of conduct.
⚠️ I hold no support in the administration of Powys County Council and its daily operations. I have no faith- like so many residents in the practice of several services, their safeguarding discussions and duty of care to us the paying residents ⚠️

So, I am choosing to step away — not because I don’t care, but because I care too much to stay in a position where I feel ineffective!
To stay and feel unable to bring huge concerns to anyone's table. It does not sit morally right with me.

⚠️This is not the end of my voice.
Far from it.
⚠️Powys doesn’t need a silenced rebellious woman.
⚠️It needs a movement, I am an activist not an "act of this!" I had forgotten where I started and what I stand for..

I fully intend to continue standing with my community — just in a different way..

So watch this space!

🔸️Thank you to everyone who has supported me over my time as a back bencher🔸️

I've had some incredible moments, met some smashing people, held space with many of you.

Thank you 😊 😢😍

💚🌻This is only the beginning.🌻💚

Love abit of "news from your doorstep" on Llandrindod solutions.

I wasn't tagged in this post to make comments and I have not yet received any emails regarding the ATR.

Interesting. In total- since the path was constructed, I have only engaged conversations about the ATR with 6 residents.
I thank all six for their updates and ongoing efforts and collaboration 🙏

NEWS: Council reaffirms commitment to tackling blue-green algae risks following budget approval

Residents, visitors and the local angling community are being reassured by Powys County Council that it remains fully committed to responding swiftly and effectively should blue-green algae reappear in local waterways this year.

Last year's incident had a significant impact on local communities, recreational users, wildlife, and angling groups. The council acknowledges the disruption caused and confirms that lessons learned have been built directly into updated response plans.

Following the budget approval on 26 February, the council has strengthened its capacity to monitor, communicate, and respond rapidly to any recurrence of blue-green algae.

This includes enhanced early warning procedures, clearer public information routes, and close collaboration with Natural Resources Wales, angling associations, and affected community groups.

Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys, said: "We fully recognise the impact last year's blue-green algae incident had on our communities, anglers, visitors, and the local environment.

"With the new budget in place, Powys County Council is determined to act quickly, decisively, and transparently if algae levels rise again this year. Protecting public health, safeguarding wildlife, and supporting our rural economy remain top priorities."

Cllr Pete Roberts, County Councillor for Llandrindod South, said: "Residents deserve reassurance that the council has learned from last year and is better prepared.

"We are finalising a contingency plan that will ensure clear communication, timely warnings, and closer working with all partners to minimise disruption and keep people safe with clear processes from first discovery to end of incident.

"Our focus is on ensuring our communities are supported and informed every step of the way."

The council will continue to provide updates throughout the spring and summer as monitoring progresses. Residents and anglers are encouraged to follow official advice and check council channels for the latest information.

⚠️notice⚠️ the leisure centre has been closed this weekend.

The following update from the Leisure services team was shared with local councillors earlier today 14.3.26

"As you will know and as part of ongoing recladding works at Llandrindod Leisure Centre the building’s external scaffolding was recently removed.

During heavy rainfall on Thursday 12th March, water entered the main electrical distribution board, resulting in a loss of power to the centre. As a result, the Leisure Centre will unfortunately remain closed until Tuesday next week."

Sorry for the late response but- I don't work Saturdays. But I would have found out during my swim tomorrow 🙃 😅

FYI- Matt Dixon, no need to plan a date, Cllr Jake and Cllr Pete have pressed on. Hope you can join in 😀😃Action day!! 🟧 ...

💡✨️What is the Town of Culture 2028 bid?

The UK Town of Culture 2028 is a national competition where towns across the UK can bid to be crowned the first-ever holder of this title.

The winning town will receive £3 million to deliver a cultural program in 2028, while two finalists will each receive £250,000 to support part of their proposals.

This initiative aims to....
- Celebrate Local Culture: Showcase the unique identity, creativity, and heritage of towns across the UK
- Drive Economic Growth: Use culture as a catalyst for social and economic regeneration
- Foster Community Engagement: Encourage collaboration across cultural, civic, and community sectors

Several towns are already bidding for the title, including:
- Deal: A medium-sized town with a population of 20,000-75,000, which will submit an expression of interest by the end of March
- Grimsby: Submitting an expression of interest and seeking local input to shape their bid
- Barnsley: Partnering with local organizations to bid for the title and gathering feedback from residents
- Littlehampton: Submitting an official bid and inviting residents to share their thoughts on the town's story
- Folkestone: Hosting workshops to gather ideas and develop their bid
- Dorking: Led by Hello Dorking, the bid aims to create a lasting legacy and boost civic pride
- Llandrindod Wells: Partnering with Celf o Gwmpas to bid for the title and gathering community input

The bidding process involves:
1. Expression of Interest: Towns submit their initial bids by March 31, 2026
2. Shortlisting: A panel selects the top bids, which will receive £60,000 to develop full applications
3. Full Application: Shortlisted towns submit detailed proposals
4. Winner Announcement: The winning town will be announced in early 2027

🙏👏💡⚠️🙏

Lets get available. Lets explore and expand on ideas 💡 nothing better then a community inclusion fact finding meet up.

And Celf is a stunning venue to host that 😍

NEWS: Plans for health and social care integration in Powys receive £7.1m boost ❤️‍🩹

Projects essential to the next stage of integrating health and social care in Powys have received a £7.1 million boost, with agreement reached on funding priorities for 2026-27.

The decision by the county's Regional Partnership Board will see money directed towards key aims of the Health and Care Strategy, focused on:

1. Children and young people

2. Prevention and early help

3. Helping people return home from hospital/out-of-county placements

4. Integrated, whole system working

5. Short-term cost avoidance and system enablers (e.g. workforce)

This investment represents the final year of guaranteed support from Welsh Government’s Regional Integration Fund and, as well as investment in testing new and innovative ways of working, it will help successful projects move towards mainstream funding where appropriate.
