Another busy day working through local issues and supporting residents.

Today I’ve:
💡 Reported a couple of faulty street lights and followed these up with the relevant team.
🏠 Followed up on a housing case to help a resident get the support and response they need.
📧 Responded to and followed up on constituent emails and a number of other local concerns raised with me.

We are responsible for the operation and maintenance of more than 26,000 street lights throughout the county. We have a duty to ensure that all illuminated street furniture, i.e. streetlights and illuminated traffic signs on the highway remain operational. Every street light and illuminated traffic....

🌱 I stopped by the local allotments today and, as a keen gardener myself (although these days I seem to have very little time for it!), it was lovely to have a chat with a few of the allotment holders while out walking around the ward.

I also remembered to take a few photos of the repaired fencing along the river walk. 📸

Back in late August, I raised the broken fencing again with the council, as it still hadn’t been repaired. This time, I also sent photos showing the build-up of dry leaves and vegetation nearby. With everything being so dry, I was concerned it could become a temptation for someone to set fire to, particularly after the wildfires we experienced over the summer. 🔥

So it was really pleasing to see the fencing repaired the following week. It’s helped remove that risk and has also made the area look much tidier and safer for everyone using the river walk. 👍

A big thank you to all the residents who raised this with me in the first place. It’s a good example of why reporting local issues matters and it’s always nice to see something raised getting sorted. 👏

After a couple of visits with constituents, I stopped by on a sunny day to Llanerch Tce Field and was pleased to see the maintenance team there giving the field a much-needed mow and tidy-up.

It had become quite overgrown and untidy, so it’s great to see it looking much better. It makes a real difference for local residents and means the field is a nicer space for people to use and enjoy.

Thanks to the Cyngor Sir Gâr - Carmarthenshire County Council maintenance team for getting it sorted. 👍

Wow! Families are already under enormous pressure from the cost of living. The last thing they need is more of their hard-earned money being wasted.

Great British Energy reportedly spent £14.1 million of taxpayers’ money while generating just £62,000 in income, an extraordinary imbalance that works out at roughly £200 spent for every £1 generated.

And the local jobs created? Zero local jobs created.

Meanwhile, millions have been spent on consultants and lawyers, while valuable prime farmland is being lost.

I believe taxpayers deserve value for money, full transparency and accountability, not expensive schemes that pile more pressure onto working families.

🌳 Supporting Parc Howard

Today I have written to Council Department to raise the issue of water provision at Parc Howard and to ask for support for the Parc Howard Association (PHA)

PHA volunteers do a tremendous amount of work caring for the trees, shrubs and planting across the Parc. With only one water standpipe currently available, keeping new planting properly watered during increasingly dry summers has become a real challenge.

Autumn is the time for planting, and PHA have recieved enquiries from members of the public for the last eight weeks about the planting of memorial trees. With the planting season now upon us, the lack of a sustainable water solution has unfortunately meant that PHA has had to pause new planting.

I have asked the Council to work with PHA to explore practical options, including additional water provision, with a view to having a solution in place ahead of summer 2027.

I hope we can get a positive response and help ensure PHA can continue its fantastic work enhancing and caring for Parc Howard. 🌱

Carmarthenshire collected £967,276 from the empty-home council tax premium in 2024/25, brought 239 private-sector empty properties back into use, and reduced the number empty for six months or more by 13%.

That’s progress, but there is clearly more to do.

The question now is: what more can be done to bring empty properties back into use? Could more of the revenue raised be invested in grants, renovation schemes, council acquisition and stronger enforcement where appropriate?
