Making plans for the weekend? ☀️

If you’re heading near rivers, lakes or the coast, please take extra care around open water. Even on warm days, cold water shock can happen quickly and without warning 🌊

If you see someone in trouble: 📲 Call 999 immediately and ask for the Fire Service

💧 Encourage them to float on their back
🛟 Throw any available rescue equipment
❎ Do not enter the water to attempt a rescue yourself

Entering the water could put you at risk from cold water shock and strong currents. Please wait for emergency services — our crews have the specialist training and equipment to help safely.

Stay safe and enjoy your weekend 👍

With yesterday being Bank Holiday Monday, our drill night moved to Tuesday.

If our firefighters are working nights or unable to attend, we make every effort to come in during the morning to carry out the standard tests on our equipment, ensuring all equipment is fully operational and ready to respond.

It’s also Test It Tuesday – a great reminder to check your smoke alarms at home. A quick test could make all the difference.

We hope you’re all enjoying the sunshine—stay safe! ☀️

💙 Dementia Action Week

Did you know Cleveland Fire Brigade supports people living with dementia across our communities?

Our dedicated Advocates can carry out free safer homes visits, helping people with dementia stay safe and independent in their own homes.

During Dementia Action Week, we’re highlighting how our Advocates have taken part in dementia awareness sessions to better understand the challenges people may face. This helps them recognise risks, respond with confidence, and provide practical, compassionate support to those affected.

🚨 Road Traffic Collision – A171 near Scaling Dam 🚨

At 2:20pm on Friday 15 May, emergency services were called to a road traffic collision involving a white Mini and a blue Ford Transit on the eastbound carriageway of the A171.

Firefighters from Danby, Whitby, Loftus and Saltburn attended alongside the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) and the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS). Crews worked together to make the scene safe and assist in the safe extrication of a casualty.

The driver of the Mini was taken to James Cook University Hospital for treatment. The driver and passenger of the Ford Transit were assessed and treated at the scene.

GNAAS deployed their critical care team, who worked alongside NEAS colleagues to assess and treat the patient prior to transport.

Cleveland Police are appealing for information following the collision. If you witnessed the incident or have dash cam footage, please contact them via 101 or through their website, quoting reference 092136.

📍 Have you heard of what3words?

📌 It’s a free app that helps you share your exact location in an emergency.

🧑‍🚒 Recently, firefighters at Cleveland Fire Brigade used what3words to quickly find a fire in a rural area. The emergency call included a what3words location, which meant crews knew exactly where to go.

🚒 Because they had a precise location, they arrived faster and stopped the fire spreading, protecting wildlife, nature, and nearby areas.

How it works:

Every 3 metre square in the world has a unique 3-word address. You can give this to emergency services so they know exactly where you are.

✅ Faster response

✅ More accurate location

✅ Could save lives

💛 Download the what3words app today so if you ever need to call 999, you can tell us exactly where to find you.
