Thanks to everyone who came to Storytime and Colouring Fun this morning at Orpington Library.

Our theme was FOOD and we read two brilliant books, ‘My Rice is Best’ written by Selina Brown and illustrated by Max A. Oginni. After chatting about our favourite rice dishes we then read ‘Papa’s Butter Chicken’ written by Monica Saigal and illustrated by Abeeha Tariq. We then had fun colouring in Monica and Papa cooking together.

To celebrate the Bromley author Adeola Sokunbi ran a brilliant event today at Bromley Central Library’s pop up library in the Pavilion Leisure Centre.
Adeola presented the children with their Summer Reading Challenge certificate and medal and then told us all about her amazing ‘Destiny Ink’ series

As well as sharing her own story, Adeola helped the children explore their feelings using her character Destiny Ink and then ran a creating a monster drawing workshop. The children helped Adeola create a fabulous monster which the children called Bloby

They then created their own wonderful monsters!

Enormous thanks to Adeola for a wonderful morning inspiring children to read, write and illustrate their own stories!

Adeola’s books are available to borrow from Bromley Libraries.

A huge thank you to author Marcela Ferreira for visiting West Wickham Library yesterday!
Marcela ran two wonderful sessions for Year 1 pupils from a local primary school, sharing her fantastic new picture book, ‘Isobel Hates Change’ (illustrated by Mark Chambers).

After a captivating storytime, Marcela led a thoughtful chat about the different types of change we encounter and how they make us feel. The children also took part in a fun quiz all about sticks and stick insects, followed by a brilliant draw-along where everyone created their very own picture of Steve, Isabel’s dog!

Thanks to the West Wickham Library staff for hosting.
We loved having Marcela at West Wickham and hope to welcome her back soon!

All of Marcela’s books are available to borrow across Bromley Libraries!

Huge thanks to everyone who came to Pictures Alive yesterday. We celebrated Bethany Walker’s picture books and then decorated awesome lion masks.

Bethany is one of our GLL Literary Foundation authors, the programme which supports authors, inspires reading and champions public libraries.

We enjoyed reading ‘How to Train your Teacher’ illustrated by Sophie Kent and ‘Do Lions Hate Haircuts illustrated by Stephanie Laberis.

Join us for our next session on 12th October at 4pm when we will be focusing on the books by another Literary Foundation author Jane Porter. Watch out for the Eventbrite link.

Join us for Storytime and Colouring Fun TOMORROW from 10-10.30am at Orpington Library when our theme is dinosaurs!! 🦖

We will be sharing some brilliant dinosaur themed books including ‘Never Show a T-Rex a Book’ written by Rashmi Sirdeshpande and illustrated by Diane Ewen and ‘Kid Rex to the Rescue’ written by Mayo Agard Olubo and also illustrated by Diane Ewen.

After the stories we will be making Kid Rex superhero mask!!

With help from objects and artefacts from our Handling Collection, we'll be taking a free-flowing trip down Memory Lane, sharing our memories of living in and around Hayes.

This event is part of our weekly Chatty Tuesdays - drop in every Tuesday at 11am for a chat, a warm drink, and some interesting talks!
