A great week of adventure training in North Wales for the Wing to wrap up summer camp season.

45 Cadets and 15 Adult Volunteers have just returned from a week at Capel Curig. They got to push themselves to the limit while having great fun. Climbing mountains, exploring old mines, canoeing, paddle boarding and mountain biking - they did it all.

If that sounds like something you want to try, visit www.raf.mod.uk/aircadets to find your local squadron to join us.

As we near the end of the summer we can start to look back on our Summer Camps. This year Surrey Wing joined with several Combined Cadet Force (RAF) units for an excellent week at RAF Waddington.

During the week there was a chance meeting with a former cadet of 328 (Kingston upon Thames) Squadron. Air Commodore Ferris started her life in RAF uniform at 328 Sqn, just like the two cadets pictured alongside her, before starting her career in the RAF. Earlier this year she was appointed as ISTAR Force Commander, a great achievement, showing how far our cadets can go.

We all know Air Cadets love aircraft - so what better place to visit than the Farnborough International Air Show!

This year 68 cadets and 15 adult volunteers attended the Pioneers of Tomorrow Day on the only public day of the show. They got to engage with many industry exhibitors, take part in STEM activities, careers talks, workshops and of course get up close to real aircraft. Some lucky cadets got a private tour of a Sea King Helicopter thanks to Heli Operations.

Cadet Moulière-Reiser of 1349 (Woking) Sqn said after the event, "The day was filled with looking at many stands and looking at many different planes. My favourite part of the day was watching the air show, there were multiple planes on display. The first display stood out to me because there were parachuters who jumped out of an aircraft. One of the parachuters jumped with a big Union Jack flag that weighed over 70 kilograms. Overall, the experience was amazing and I will definitely do it again!"

Last week cadets from Surrey, Middlesex and Sussex Wings came together for a multi activity camp on the Isle of Wight.

They took part in a wide range of activities, with around a third of the cadets having never been to the Isle of Wight before.

Congratulations to FS Collins (2262 Sqn) as Best NCO, and Cdt Gradel (393 Sqn) as Best Cadet.

All had a great time, and a thank you to the staff who helped make it happen

🏅Medals all round as Cadets complete the Nijmegen Marches 🏅

Five of our cadets, and one adult volunteer, have just completed the 4-day Marches in Nijmegen in the Netherlands. The completed the marches, of 40 km each day, as part of the London & SE Region team. Congratulations to Flying Officer Duffy on her promotion to Flight Lieutenant

Flt Lt Duffy took over as Officer Commanding 219 Sutton & Cheam Squadron earlier in the year and having completed the Unit Commanders Course has been promoted.

She is also a key member of the Wing Training Team, so a well deserved promotion for one of our most dedicated volunteers.

ARMED FORCES WEEK FLAG RAISING PARADE 🫡

Today we joined the other cadets forces and dignitaries from across the County at Guildford Cathedral to mark the start of Armed Forces Week. This annual event includes the raising of the Armed Forces Day Flag outside of the Cathedral followed by a march past with the Lord Lt of Surrey taking the salute.

Despite the hot weather our cadets maintained their high standards of uniform and drill, with several positive comments made by some of those attending about the skills of our cadet musicians.

🎺🥁 BAND PRACTICE 🎺🥁

This weekend the cadet musicians of our Wing Band met to prepare to play at a number of events over the next few months. 50 cadets attended, with half being new to the Wing Band, being trained in band drill as well as learning the music to be played at the events.

It is great to see the Wing Band go from strength to strength, with more experienced cadets now providing training to the newer members.

The Band now looks forward to leading the Surrey Joint Services' Charities Service at Guildford Cathedral to launch Armed Forces Week in the county.
