HACKNEY’S NEWEST GYM IS NOW OPEN 🏋🏼

Did you know the old office space at Christopher Addison House in Hackney Central has been transformed into a gym whilst Kings Hall gets refurbished?

Cllr Sam Mathys joins over an 50s soca aerobics class and tests out the equipment.

The new temporary gym is open for business and it’s built for everyone. We’re keeping fitness simple, inclusive, and affordable:
- Enjoy the same rates as our other council leisure centres
- Up to 50% off with available concessions.
- Dedicated classes tailored specifically for over 50s to keep you moving strong.
- Get guided support with free activities via the Healthier Together Hackney referral program

It’s part of our ambition to give Hackney back to its communities and make better use of what the Council owns, as part of our landmark Who Owns Hackney? investigation.

FREE bike journeys for people with limited mobility in Hackney! 👑

People with disabilities, restricted mobility, older people and anyone experiencing social isolation can now book free cycle transport on Tuesdays

The ride is a side-by-side electric-assist bike, with space for a “cycle pilot” (the driver) and three passengers

Riders can either help pedal, or just enjoy the ride 😎

Community organisations can also book it out for transport to meetings and activities

Funded by the Zero Emissions Network and delivered by Bikeworks Cycle Connect, it’s designed to help people with limited mobility enjoy free sustainable transport for local trips

Hackney’s buildings belong to the community - and that includes making sure all our children have a place to learn.

When Beis Yaakov Girls School, one of our local independent Jewish schools, faced eviction, we looked at how our empty school buildings could help. We’ve agreed to offer them a short-term licence to occupy part of the former Oldhill School site until the end of this year. This will keep the doors open for over one hundred primary school children and allow them to continue to learn without disruption while they seek long-term solutions.

It’s one of the ways in which we ensure our buildings serve those who need them most. We will continue to speak and work with our community partners to decide on the site’s long-term use.
