Bromley Council continues to clamp down on fly tipping.

We have been informed that the NO RIGHT TURN at the junction of Crossways and Village Way will in the coming weeks be enforced by CCTV.

Turning right at these lights is very dangerous as it is on the brow of the hill at the top of Stone Park Avenue. Enforcement is considered necessary at this location as a study has revealed a high number of contraventions

You will see CCTV cameras being fitted at the location and CCTV enforcement signage will be erected to ensure motorists are clearly informed that the site is subject to camera enforcement.

Once we get a confirmed go-live date for enforcement we will update you on here. We can also confirm that for the first 14 days of enforcement, any vehicle captured will be issued with a warning notice only, with no financial penalty attached. Following this initial warning period, Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) will be issued in accordance with the relevant legislation.

I hope you agree that road safety is paramount in this instance.

We are pleased to announce that the Kelsey Park Bridge is open. O

The bridge was closed on Friday afternoon as a precaution when a few of the bolts holding the handrails in place were found to be loose.

Timber is a natural product and needs to acclimatise to its surroundings, movement and shrinkage was expected, but with the glorious summer we are having it was more pronounced than expected. The bridge has been inspected by the designers and the bolts tightened. At present there is no need for a different type of locking bolt.

We met on site today with the contractors and the Council Officer to fully understand what had happened and why. We would like to thank everyone involved for their speedy responses and actions.

Please be aware

Courier fraud criminals impersonate police and banks to steal money and valuables. Trading Standards is reminding residents to stay vigilant: hang up and verify details independently.

These criminals are professional fraudsters that cold-call residents whilst claiming to be from the police, a bank, or a trusted organisation. They often sound genuine, reassuring, etc. and may already know personal details such as a resident's name or bank, making the scam appear legitimate.

Some examples of courier fraud scams from previous reports by Bromley residents include:

• Requests to assist with a supposed "undercover investigation" by withdrawing cash, purchasing foreign currency, or buying gold, jewellery, or other high-value items. A courier is then sent to collect them.

• Claims that a bank account has been compromised and that funds must be transferred into a so-called "safe account" controlled by criminals.

• Requests for PIN numbers, card details, or banking information, followed by a courier being sent to collect and "replace" bank cards.

In some cases, the criminal may advise the resident to hang up and call 999 or the bank in order to appear genuine. But the fraudster doesn't disconnect and stays on the line, so even after dialling the real phone number, it is still the same fraudsters on the other end. Their aim is to gain trust, create a sense of urgency, and persuade people to hand over money or valuables.

Fraudsters also often instruct victims not to discuss the matter with anyone else and may encourage them to conceal the real reason for cash withdrawals from bank staff. It is therefore essential that residents follow any warnings from the bank and give full disclosure when asked about the purpose of any withdrawal.

Protect yourself:

• Hang up immediately if an unexpected caller claims to be from the police or a bank.

• Never transfer money to a so-called "safe account". Banks and police will never ask this.

• Never share PIN numbers, passwords, security codes, or one-time passcodes.

• Never hand over bank cards, cash, jewellery, or valuables to a courier.

• If a bank card has been cancelled, destroy it personally.

Call your bank on 159 to check your account is secure; leave it a good while before making the call or use a different phone. Also, consider speaking to a trusted friend, family member, neighbour, or bank employee before taking any action.

Kelsey Park Bridge Closure

You may be aware the Kelsey Park Bridge has been closed for repairs.

This is disappointing for all of us, but hot weather has caused the wood to flex and some of the bolts holding the handrail posts have loosened. As a precaution the bridge has been closed. Land and Water, the bridge contractor, will be replacing the bolts. The cost of these works will be met by the contractors, not the council.

The safety of our community is paramount. We are working closely with officers and contractors to reopen the bridge as quickly as possible, expected to be next week.

Further to the post regarding the closure of Charing Cross and Waterloo East. It is worth noting that trains to those destinations will be diverted to Victoria. To make space at Victoria for these services trains from Beckenham Junction to Victoria will run every 30 minutes rather than the normal 15 minutes. This is between Monday 27th July and Friday 14th August

Charing Cross and Waterloo East closed throughout 26 July - 16 August

A £20m programme of engineering works will be upgrading the infrastructure around Charing Cross and Waterloo East, to improve the reliability and safety of the network.

How this will affect services

No trains will call at Charing Cross or Waterloo East stations on the following dates:

Sunday 26 July to Sunday 16 August – 22-day closure
Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August
Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October

One of the main complaints we get is people fly tipping. We hate it too! It costs all of us time and money. Bromley Council will prosecute offenders, it is what our community deserves.

A fly-tipping incident has resulted in a successful prosecution, underlining the council's ongoing commitment to tackle the illegal dumping of waste.

The incident, captured on CCTV in October 2025, involved large items of furniture being unloaded from a rented van and left behind recycling banks in Plaistow Lane, Bromley near Sundridge Park train station. The recycling banks were in place to help residents recycle paper, glass bottles and jars, and clothing items, with the dumped furniture left near the ‘no fly-tipping’ sign which warned offenders would be prosecuted.

Following an investigation, the hirer of the van involved was identified and issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice for the illegal depositing of waste contrary to Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

After the notice remained unpaid, despite an extension of time to being granted, prosecution followed. Brendan Nicholas Daley, of Glenure Road, Eltham, appeared at Bromley Magistrates' Court on 14 July 2026, where he pleaded guilty to the offence. Mr Daley was ordered to pay a fine of £825, a victim surcharge of £330 and prosecution costs of £400, totalling £1,555.

A council spokesperson said, "Prosecution remains a last resort, but it is simply not acceptable to dump furniture or other items at a recycling bank or anywhere else. Not only is it unsightly and can be dangerous, but it also deters others using the banks for their recycling. Residents are reminded that they can take unwanted items to the Council’s Reuse and Recycling Centre in Beckenham, with the Council also providing a collection service for those who prefer the convenience of direct collections. Businesses are also reminded that information about responsible disposal of waste is available on the council website.”

Residents are reminded that bulky household items can be disposed of at the Churchfields Road Reuse and Recycling Centre by booking an appointment or by using the weekend Reuse and Recycling Centre on Baths Road. Alternatively, residents can book an appointment for the council to collect items directly.
