π§ Main Road, Sutton-at-Hone - Road Closure Update π§
Firstly, thank you all for your patience. I've been away on holiday for a number of days, so I haven't been able to provide updates on this issue as regularly or in as much detail as I would have liked, nor had I been able to visit the site in person.
That said, this process has highlighted a wider issue. Residents shouldn't have to rely on a Dartford Borough Councillor chasing Kent County Council and Thames Water for scraps of information. There should be clear, proactive communication throughout incidents like this. To that end, I reached out to Sutton-at-Hone's Kent County Councillor for support, but unfortunately I didn't receive a response.
But anyway, into the update ππ»
I've finally managed to speak directly with Thames Water today. They've confirmed that they, together with Kent County Highways, will be meeting tomorrow to agree to a plan and proposed timeline for reinstating the road this week. As soon as I receive that information, I'll share it with everyone.
I'm also very aware of the ongoing issues with barriers being moved and vehicles mounting the footway. This is something both I and the Parish Council have been raising repeatedly with those responsible. The current situation isn't acceptable, and pedestrian safety must come first.
I've also passed on reports of several other water leaks that residents have highlighted. Thames Water has advised that, based on their current assessment, none of these meet the threshold for an emergency repair. However, they have confirmed they will investigate each report.
Finally, once this incident has been resolved, I intend to pursue a number of concerns with both Kent County Council and Thames Water. There are several aspects of how this situation has been handled and communicated that I don't believe have been good enough, and I'll be seeking answers and improvements to help prevent a repeat of this.
I appreciate this is quite underwhelming - but I'll report back tomorrow as soon as I receive a further update from Thames Water. Thank you again for your continued patience and for continuing to report issues to me. It really does help ensure they are raised with the appropriate organisations.
