Summer Fun, New website and Parsonage – our hidden gem!

We were delighted to host two very well-attended community events this summer - one at Parsonage and one in The Orchard, bringing residents together for fun, activities and community spirit.

A huge thank you to Cllr K White and Cllr Golledge for all their hard work in organising.

We were also honoured to welcome The Worshipful the Mayor of Dartford, Cllr Avtar Sandhu MBE to the Parsonage event, and he was able to see first-hand the facilities and beautiful grounds we have to offer. It was a pleasure to show him around and share our vision for the future of Parsonage Pavilion.

We have recently launched our new website which includes a promotional video showcasing Parsonage Pavilion, a welcoming community facility with enormous potential to become an even more valuable community hub. We are keen to welcome more sports clubs, community organisations and local groups looking for a long-term home and to help shape the future of this unique facility.

If your club, society or organisation is looking for a new venue, we'd love to hear from you.

We are also keen to hear more from our residents. Our recently launched website includes a new Community Engagement section, giving local people the opportunity to take part in consultations and help shape future projects and priorities across the parish. Over the coming months, we will be making greater use of this facility and would particularly welcome feedback on the future of Sexton's Hut at the Burial Ground. Please keep an eye on our website and take the opportunity to share your views as consultations are launched.

We have just been notified by residents that Ship Lane has been closed for up to 5 days for more Thames Water repairs. We are trying to find out why no notice has been received and will update when we know more.

Update: KCC were only notified this morning and these works were classified as immediate/urgent but they are requesting for the repairs to be completed as quickly as possible. We have requested details of the works to be carried out.

🚧 Main Road, Sutton-at-Hone - Road Closure Update 🚧

Firstly, thank you all for your patience. I've been away on holiday for a number of days, so I haven't been able to provide updates on this issue as regularly or in as much detail as I would have liked, nor had I been able to visit the site in person.

That said, this process has highlighted a wider issue. Residents shouldn't have to rely on a Dartford Borough Councillor chasing Kent County Council and Thames Water for scraps of information. There should be clear, proactive communication throughout incidents like this. To that end, I reached out to Sutton-at-Hone's Kent County Councillor for support, but unfortunately I didn't receive a response.

But anyway, into the update πŸ‘‡πŸ»

I've finally managed to speak directly with Thames Water today. They've confirmed that they, together with Kent County Highways, will be meeting tomorrow to agree to a plan and proposed timeline for reinstating the road this week. As soon as I receive that information, I'll share it with everyone.

I'm also very aware of the ongoing issues with barriers being moved and vehicles mounting the footway. This is something both I and the Parish Council have been raising repeatedly with those responsible. The current situation isn't acceptable, and pedestrian safety must come first.

I've also passed on reports of several other water leaks that residents have highlighted. Thames Water has advised that, based on their current assessment, none of these meet the threshold for an emergency repair. However, they have confirmed they will investigate each report.

Finally, once this incident has been resolved, I intend to pursue a number of concerns with both Kent County Council and Thames Water. There are several aspects of how this situation has been handled and communicated that I don't believe have been good enough, and I'll be seeking answers and improvements to help prevent a repeat of this.

I appreciate this is quite underwhelming - but I'll report back tomorrow as soon as I receive a further update from Thames Water. Thank you again for your continued patience and for continuing to report issues to me. It really does help ensure they are raised with the appropriate organisations.

Flooding Update: Balmoral Road / Main Road

Thames Water are currently on site repairing a burst on a larger water main in the Balmoral Road area.

The road remains closed outside the library. There are now also emergency roadworks at the Main Road/Balmoral Road junction while Thames Water repair the latest burst.

Access is currently available for Balmoral Road, Dairy Lane and Hotham Close only. There is no access beyond Hotham Close due to the ongoing works.

Thames Water have advised they are looking at whether they can safely reopen at least one of the road closures to reduce disruption, but this will depend on how the repairs progress.

Thank you for your continued patience while these essential emergency repairs are completed - I'm currently on leave, but am seeking updates to ensure we have the latest information, and progress moves as quickly as possible. Further updates will be shared as soon as more information is available.
