The British Panther Tank Cuckoo Captured German Armour in WWII Falaise to Holland Coldstream Guards

Discover the incredible true story of “Cuckoo”, the captured German Panther tank that fought for Britain during the Second World War. 🪖🇬🇧

When the 4th Motor Battalion Coldstream Guards landed in France in 1944, they were equipped with Churchill tanks — tough, but no match for German armour. That changed when British troops stumbled across an operational Panther hidden in a barn in the Netherlands.

Rather than destroy it, they decided to press it into service — repainting it with Allied stars and giving it the ironic name “Cuckoo”, after the bird that lays its eggs in others’ nests.

🔹 Learn how Cuckoo was captured and recommissioned
🔹 Explore its role in key battles, including Geijsteren Castle and Waldenrath
🔹 See how its 7.5cm KwK 42 L/70 gun and advanced optics impressed its British crew
🔹 Find out why it was eventually abandoned near Kleve in early 1945

This is one of the most unique tales of WWII — a German tank fighting for the Allies, respected for its engineering and feared for its firepower.

📍 Locations: Falaise • Overloon • Geijsteren Castle • Kleve
⚙️ Tank Type: Panther Ausf. G
🪶 Nickname: Cuckoo
