It was great to join Nesil Caliskan for Barking and the brilliant Mayesbrook Park and Rippleside Pride in Place Board yesterday. Everyone is fired up and ready to get going, working with local residents to set the priorities for the £20m of government investment going into that neighbourhood over the next 10 years.

Barking and Dagenham has long sought additional powers to apply greater control over the number of betting shops and adult gaming centres, so it's really welcome news that the Prime Minister has announced these powers will be coming through at the start of next year.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham said town centres had been "hollowed out" by decades of decline.
