📚 PRESERVING BARNSLEY’S HISTORY

Cllr Andrew Gillis and Cllr Alan Parker, who both represent Barnsley Council on the South Yorkshire Joint Advisory Committee on Archives, were recently joined by Lynne Minett, Group Leader for Heritage and Museums, and David Blunden, Archives and Local Studies Sector Specialist, for a visit to Barnsley Archives at the Town Hall.

The tour gave them a great insight into the important work being done to preserve our borough’s history and heritage for future generations.

🇬🇧 Our heritage belongs to all of us. It’s important that we protect Barnsley’s history and make sure it remains accessible for generations to come.

A big thank you to the archives team for taking the time to share their knowledge and showcase the fantastic resources they care for. 👏🏼

🎓 A BETTER DEAL FOR STUDENTS, NURSES AND BRITAIN

Suella Braverman has set out Reform UK’s plans to cut wasteful student loans and invest in skills that Britain actually needs.

🇬🇧 20% cut to student loan issuance – loans focused on degrees that deliver strong economic returns, rather than low-value courses.

👩‍⚕️ More doctors trained here – we’ll lift the cap on medical school places and stop relying so heavily on overseas recruitment.

👩‍⚕️ 0% interest loans for nurses – making it easier for domestic students to train and enter the profession.

The savings will help fund Reform’s Skills Revolution, including an Apprenticeship Wage Credit worth over £4,700 per apprentice per year and a £2,000 Apprenticeship Retention Bonus.

Less money wasted. More investment in doctors, nurses, apprentices and the skills Britain needs.

📢 £500 MORE A YEAR IN YOUR POCKET FOR 40 MILLION TAXPAYERS

Robert Jenrick has pledged to increase the tax-free Personal Allowance to £15,000 in Reform’s first Budget, delivered within the first 100 days of government.

💷 That would be the largest increase in the history of the Personal Allowance, saving the majority of taxpayers around £500 a year.

The policy would:

- Benefit around 40 million people
- Take 2.9 million people out of income tax
- Ensure the State Pension remains untaxed

After five years of the Personal Allowance being frozen by Labour and the Conservatives, Reform UK will put more money back into the pockets of working people.

Less tax. More money in your pocket.

🇬🇧 A HEARTFELT TRIBUTE TO ANN WIDDECOMBE

The Reform UK conference has opened with a moving tribute to the late Ann Widdecombe, led by Nigel Farage and Andrew Rosindell MP, who worked alongside Ann during her political career.

Ann was a true politician of conviction. Across decades in public life, as an MP, minister, Brexit Party MEP and later a member of Reform UK, she never compromised her beliefs or changed with the political weather. Her Christian faith, traditional values, love of Britain and deep sense of public duty guided everything she did.

She helped pave the way for the movement we are building today: standing up for our country, our communities and the values that make Britain what it is.

Ann was proud to be British, proud of her beliefs and never afraid to say what she thought.

Her example will continue to inspire our movement. 🇬🇧🩵

🎸 A FANTASTIC EVENING WITH eQuiPT THERAPY SERVICES

Our councillors had the pleasure of attending the Iron Nest Band Performance, hosted by eQuiPT Therapy Services CIO on Eldon Street in Barnsley.

Cllr Michael Davies, Cllr Stan Bryan, Cllr Jayne Hulme and Cllr Vicky Jackson were delighted to come along and support this fantastic event.

✨ The real stars of the evening were the children and young people with Special Educational Needs, who took part in making and performing the music.

🥁 From guitars and keyboards to tambourines, BeatBox instruments and singing, it was brilliant to see everyone getting involved in their own way.

🎶 Music is a fantastic way to build confidence, encourage self-expression and bring people together – and it was wonderful to see that in action.

A huge well done to all the young people who took part, and to the team at eQuiPT Therapy Services for creating such a welcoming and inclusive opportunity.

🌿 DEPUTY LEADER CLLR EDWARD DILLINGHAM VISITS YORKSHIRE WILDINGS

Deputy Leader Cllr Edward Dillingham recently visited Yorkshire Wildings at Hunningley Primary School, which is delivering sessions as part of the Holiday Enrichment Programme.

Run by Tom and his fantastic team, Yorkshire Wildings gives children the freedom to lead their own experience and enjoy being outdoors in nature.

From mud kitchens and climbing trees, to drawing, axe throwing and archery, there’s plenty for children to get stuck into! 🌳🏹

These forest school sessions are about much more than having fun. They help children explore nature, develop new skills, learn teamwork and build confidence.

Tom and the team are doing a brilliant job creating a space where children can simply be children, get outside and have the freedom to explore.

A fantastic example of the brilliant opportunities that have been provided for local children during the school holidays. 👏🏼
