Rock Around the Blockade

Rock around the Blockade is a British campaign in defence of socialist Cuba. Since then we have sent 11 brigades to Cuba, providing material aid to Cuban youth.

We campaign actively:
- against the US blockade of Cuba;
- in solidarity with revolutionary movements throughout Latin America.
- against the imperialist occupation and prison at Guantanamo Bay;
- for a boycott of Bacardi, supporter of the Miami mafia

Cuba shows that there is an alternative to poverty, racism and war. We use this example to support working class struggles in Britain and to show t

hat socialism is the only system that can provide for humanity. RATB was founded in 1995 by members and supporters of the Revolutionary Communist Group. In Britain we organise protests, educational meetings, film showings and live music events. We provide a voice for Cuba through our website and our blog, www.ratbnews.blogspot.com. In February/March 2008 we organised a speaking tour across Britain with three Cuban revolutionaries, including Orlando Borrego, comrade of Che Guevara. Around 2,700 people came to meetings to hear about Cuban socialism. In 2010 RATB finished work on a documentary film, Cuba: Defending Socialism, Resisting Imperialism, filmed during the 2009 Rock around the Blockade solidarity brigade to Cuba. The film includes interviews with Cubans from all walks of life and shows Cubans celebrating 50 years of the Revolution on Mayday 2009. Want to be a part of Rock around the Blockade? Our comrades attended an event organised by the Cuban Embassy at Hamilton House in celebration of the centenary of Fidel Castro's birth. We heard all about the legacy of the commander in chief. Our task to support Cuba against the blockade and to defend Cuban socialism has never been clearer!

The RCG have joined the 53rd José Martí and are currently in Cuba having sent medical aid and building political solidarity. ✊🇨🇺

The legacy of José Martí is upheld in the Cuban revolution, he is considered a national hero for his fight for Cuban independence, a principle that he died defending.🇨🇺

‘It is my duty to prevent, through the independence of Cuba, the U.S.A. from spreading over the West Indies and falling with addedweight upon other lands of Our America. All I have done up to now and shall do hereafter is to that end.... I know the Monster, because I have lived in its lair--and my weapon is only the slingshot of David.‘ - José Martí

The struggle waged against Cuba then was recognised by Martí and is being fought by Cubans today against the United States, who seek to destroy the gains that Martí and the Cuban people have achieved. 🇨🇺✊

Over 5000 people are dead and thousands more missing following two massive earthquakes on 24 June, in Northern Venezuela. This was a natural disaster, yet the strangling sanctions imposed on Venezuela by the US and its allies amplifies the damage inflicted. Britain is complicit in this economic violence. Since 2018 the Bank of England has frozen 31 tonnes of Venezuela's gold, today valued over £3bn.

We demand:
Give Venezuela back its gold!
Lift all sanctions!

🇻🇪President Nicolas Maduro and First Combatant Cilia Flores are due in court today on 22nd June, in New York on farcical charges, 200 days since their disgusting kidnapping.

Maduro and Flores face charges of narco-terrorism conspiracy, co***ne importation conspiracy, possession and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices.

This is a clear attack upon Venezuela’s sovereignty and one, as anti-imperialists, that we must reject! Maduro and Cilia are political prisoners and we demand their release.

They are detained by US imperialism for the crime of using the nations resources to benefit its people, rather than lining the pockets of imperialists. Freedom for Maduro and Flores – hands off Venezuela! 🇻🇪✊

Alongside sanctions and the seizure of billions of dollars in Venezuelan assets here in Britain. You can donate to any of the below appeals to help the relief effort:

On Tuesday 30 June, supporters of RATB and the Revolutionary communist group were joined by supporting organisations including the Anti Fascist International and All African People's Revolutionary Party, for a protest outside the Bank of England.

Whilst Venezuela deals with the aftermath of two intense earthquakes, the BoE is witholding more than $2bn of Venezuelan gold that it will not allow Venezuela to access. The BoE claims that it doesn't recognise the legitimately elected government of Venezuela in order to justify this act of imperialist sa**sm.

Venezuela needs that gold now more than ever. Demonstrators demanded that BoE return the gold, that Britain lift the sanctions on Venezuela and that the British state gets it's hands off Venezuela!

We say enough with 'condolences' from 'King' Charles, enough with crocodile tears from the British government, enough with fake news and the tired old tropes about the Venezuelan economy – there is only one acceptable response to this disaster - Give Venezuela back its gold! Lift all sanctions!

Outside the Old Bailey at the SOAS 2 protest, a supporter or RATB delivers a speech about the earthquakes in Venezuela.
