Ranger Shaun has been very busy in every "spare" minute of his days over recent weeks, refurbishing the old Information Centre sign - and what a jolly good job he has done!! A lesser ranger would have condemned the rotting sign to the skip - not our Shauny 😁❤️ not only has he refurbished it, but it is better than it has ever been!

Please be advised that a section of Bedfont Road is closed this morning whilst the Fire Brigade deal with an ongoing fire incident. They are allowing essential access, but we'd recommend using the Clockhouse Lane entrance today if you can. We will update when the road is reopened.

🦇Don't forget...the first of our two bat walks is this Thursday the 27th August, with another on the 5th September!🦇

Come along for a short talk about bat ecology and the bat work we do at Bedfont Lakes followed by a short walk and chance to see and hopefully hear some bats using our bat detectors. The event costs £5 per person.

We are aware of news articles circulating online which state that human bones have been found at Bedfont Lakes Country Park, alongside photos of the Country Park. This information is incorrect and no such discovery has been made here, however, there is an active police cordon in place at Padstow Walk a few miles away.

💦 Sadly it can be tricky for wildlife to find any source of water during these dry spells ☀️🥵
But you can help!! Something as simple as a shallow dish of water and some rocks can invite a whole menagerie!
🦋🐦🦔🐝🦊🐸

Water is essential for wildlife to thrive, but it isn’t just for drinking! Amphibians like newts, frogs and toads use water as shelter and breeding grounds. Butterflies get valuable minerals and salts from slightly muddy water, and birds use water to bathe and remove parasites.

Just about any stand of water in your yard, from a tiny puddle to a pond, will be used by one kind of animal or another. To make it as appropriate as possible, ensure your water source is shallow with gradual and rough-textured edges, so that anything that is small enough to climb in can get out again!

🐦🦅 We are trialling a new wildlife monitoring station at Bedfont Lakes, built by Ben Carling of Alauda. 🦅🐦

🦆 The small sensor automatically recognises bird species from their calls, day and night, building a continuous record of the wildlife using the park through the seasons. The results give our rangers hard evidence of which species are here and when, and every detection is backed by the actual recording, so we can listen back, verify it ourselves, and share some of our favourite calls with you.

This is a super exciting addition for our park users, many of whom often walk with their Merlin App open....Well, now you can follow along live from wherever you are at https://alauda-three.vercel.app/stations/alauda-7ddc. It’s another way we’re keeping track of how nature is doing across the park, and we hope you'll enjoy following along too!
