I love this photo for many reasons, but mainly because it shows how a mother, even in the hospital, can have the natural birth she wishes. You don’t have to have your baby at home, or in the water, for it to be the natural birth that you are planning. Many mums can’t for medical reasons, or simply because they feel best in the hospital, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have the experience you’ve visualised. In the hospital, you can still move freely, you can be on your knees, on all fours, you can ask to dim the lights, play your favourite songs, or whatever feels right for you. Plus, hospital beds are great for kneeling, like in this photo.

What us mothers need is to be supported, heard, and respected. Wherever the birth place.

Thank you for this great photo

✨ Let yourself heal ✨

Please, heal. Heal your heart, heal your mind. Heal your thoughts. Heal all of you. Healing yourself means healing your future generations, break any cycle that have passed from generation to generation that have affected you. Heal the past that once hurt you. Healing means making peace with everything that once broke you. Your body is your temple. You are the only one living in it. It’s your sacred place. Heal it. Honour it. ✨

Find your tribe and open up to them. Talk, cry, ask, keep talking until you’ve healed. There is nothing bad with opening up, we need more of that, real ness, real talk. Do whatever it takes, but do it. Being in peace with yourself and with your life is the most valuable thing one can do.

“Everyone around the birthing mother should attend her like the queen she is”.

Birthing mothers have an entire orchestra of hormones flowing within them during birth, the mammalian part of us is doing its job. Mothers are in “another world”, literally. Disrupting them, or even them having to argue during their birth (it happens so much often than we think) is so dehumanising. It’s interrupting the mother’s instinct, breaking the flow of hormones which allows birth to happen, which leads to complications which then leads to interventions. It takes away their power, their confidence, their experience of being in peace, being listened, feeling safe, having a positive birth experience, even if it’s not the one they wanted it to be, but POSITIVE.

Birth trauma, obstetric violence, and all the horrific stories you hear from mums that sadly had to go through this, breaks my heart. The well known movement, but of mums in birth rooms, is huge.... it’s a world that is now opening the eyes to all of us, and it has to change .

A positive birth experience (whichever birth it is) leads to a happier start of motherhood, to a most successful breastfeeding journey, to mums feeing empowered and strong for the postpartum period.

We all deserve it. You all deserve it. Let no one take this away from you.

“We wouldn’t be here as a specie if the breasts failed as often as our culture has made us believe”

Seek for support if you are having a difficult time breastfeeding, if it’s something you want to continue doing. Sometimes it’s small changes that make all the difference. Thankfully there’s so many lovely lactation consultants or even mother’s that have gone through it, that can help you and baby. Always speak out, open up, we are all in this together. Don’t feel like you failed. We are here to support each other, into having a smoother transition to motherhood, which is already pretty intense 💫✨

This beautiful, intense, full on journey. Whichever way it goes for each of us, embrace it and be proud of how far you’ve come ❤️ . We are all doing what’s best for our babies, and that’s all that matters. Let’s support each other, we are not alone. And if you are reading this, you are not alone too 🙏🏻

This is such a powerful picture. Thanks .se for sharing it. •

When you wonder why you “failed to progress” as doctors call it. Or things went the opposite of what you were expecting, sadly. You look back and unconsciously think ”l failed” or “my body failed”

And no, that’s a totally misleading thought. Your body didn’t fail. The system did. (Not in all cases, of course) but this has to be said. **Of course not in the cases of real emergencies in which thankfully medicine exists and doctors are there doing extraordinary work. but in a low risk straightforward births in which the mother aims for a natural birth, sometimes they do “too much too soon” as .hill states.** Ironically, they don’t take into consideration the basic needs of a woman in labour, or they don’t know them? How can this be possible? Why is it so hard to acknowledge , and put into practice, that having an environment in which the women feels safe, it will make such a positive impact in the women’s birth. It will make the woman move freely, feel intimate, loved, and so oxytocin will flow and so labour will develop naturally as the body slowly starts opening.

Because fact is: we need oxytocin for birth, it’s the hormone produced in birth, and if we, women, don’t produce it naturally, they are going to give it to us, medically, disrupting the process. We can’t forget about this! •

Hello again to all my beautiful community. It feels good to be back. As you might have noticed (or maybe not) I’ve been off this page for over a year now. This due to having my second child, and dedicating all my precious time to my family.

I’ve been meaning to come back for a couple of months now (feeing les sleep deprived and more like myself). As I always say to myself: I will know when the time is right, I will feel it. And when that happens , I’ll be back. Well I have to say I’m back now, that moment came, after attending .hill talk at google this week about her second book “Birth like a feminist”. It was my first time back at doing what I love most. And there is so much to say and so much to do that I can’t wait any longer.

So here I am. A full time mother of 2, but eager to continue the path as a Birth Doula and to speak out about how NECESSARY AND IMPORTANT it is for women to be supported, listened, and treated with love, kindness and dignity in that room , in whichever way they decide to birth their babies. And lastly, to remind women (and everybody) that a woman in labour has a voice in that birthing room, and they should be heard.

Each mark signifies the strength my body used to create you. Each mark demonstrates the miracle that you are. Each mark reminds me just how lucky I am to have you.

For some, they may not be pretty. For me they are, and they are mine 🙏🏻 and because I have them, I have you.

This was your home. Where I grew to love you. Where I held you until my arms could.

And for that, I will always find something beautiful in them. 🙏🏻

Today I’ve been discharged from the care of the Home Birth Rainbow Team; . I had my last post natal appointment with them at home 🏡

Their presence throughout all my pregnancy and birth and postnatal care has been magical. I can’t thank them enough. What a difference it made this time around, preparing for a home birth, with so much empowerment, reassurance, trust, and peace. The appointments were always something fun to look forward to, and having them at home for birth was beautiful as their presence was pure joy, they were loving (as always), they were never obtrusive, they made the environment magical and unforgettable... I was sad birth was over too quickly (who would’ve thought you’d say that?), and now even sadder they have discharged me. I kind of wanted to have them next to me forever ❤️ thanks thanks thanks! I’m forever thankful with you, beautiful team, beautiful women ❤️ I love you all ❤️

Special thanks to for being so special, being the one we met since the very beginning of the pregnancy, and was in birth with us ❤️ and to the lovely as well for being here with us for birth ❤️

Here are some photos of my birth, taken by the amazing

I will be posting more in future posts, as Instagram just lets me choose 10 😔 thanks for your talent .stirk 💕

Could I have asked for a better Birth Support Tribe?

Our house was filled with magic and pure oxytocin and love thanks to every one of you in this photo 💕❣️🏠

My sweet and loving husband which was my rock, two respectful midwives which we knew throughout the pregnancy, one non-obtrusive beautiful photographer, and my two amazing and supportive friends 👭and of course Ella (our 2 year old) which was present from start to finish.

Having such a positive environment surrounding me was key, seeing smiles everywhere, listening to their loving words reassuring how amazing I was doing, just seeing how relaxed everyone was and how perfect things were progressing 💕

Trust your bodies mamas, let your minds go, trust the process and be aware that if you allow your body to flow in the right environment then things will go smoothly.

It is tough, tough for mental preparation and physical strength that you naturally develop, but I kept remembering that in the exact moment you want to give up, it’s when baby is coming, and so it was 👶🏼🏠

Birth is beautiful, it’s magical, it’s a life changing experience that teaches us how perfectly nature is designed, how our bodies are created for this and how it’s in our DNA to birth our babies, all the power we need it’s already within us ❤️

Forever thankful with my body and my baby for working together into birthing my little Luca at home in such a beautiful environment and smooth birth. Forever thankful to each and every one in this photo, because together we created what I wished for 9 months ago... an unforgettable birth at home with nothing but LOVE.

Luca, you are here, you are loved. 🏠💕

Home Birth Preparation

We’ve reached the 38 week mark, and we are all set up for the home birth now. We’ve just had the 38 week checkup at home with the lovely midwives from the Rainbow team, and all is looking great!

The suitcase you see in the photo is the Midwives’ home birth kit that they leave here, so when birth happens, they have all they need ❤️

Also, the birthing pool has been delivered! Yey! So that means we are READY!

Now onwards is the beautiful wait, the rest, the nesting, and the excitement for whenever baby is ready to come 👶🏼🤰🏼💕❤️

I CANT WAIT 🎉💕❤️
