A Royal Navy warship that vanished 118 years ago is in line to benefit from new Government protections. ⚓

HMS Tiger - whose discovery is announced today by dive group ProjectXplore - is potentially one of thousands of vulnerable military wreck sites.

Under changes proposed by the Armed Forces Bill, sites like these would be automatically safeguarded from the moment they are found. 🌊

This would make it an offence to disturb military wreck sites without permission – protecting the final resting places of thousands of sailors and marines.

The Bill also includes measures to improve military housing and strengthen the UK’s Strategic Reserve. 🏡

A new Defence Housing Service has been set up to put forces families first, with modern property standards and faster delivery on repairs and upgrades.

It's part of a 10 year, £9 billion renewal of Armed Forces housing, which will see 40,000 homes upgraded, modernised or rebuilt. There are also plans to build 100,000 new homes on surplus defence land, for military and civilian families alike.

This week, Defence Secretary Wes Streeting saw the difference this is already making to service families in Edinburgh.
