🌞🔥 Please Help Protect Our Green Spaces During the Dry Weather 🔥🌞

With the current dry conditions, do not light barbecues, fire pits, campfires or any open flames in outdoor areas, parks, woodland or public open spaces.

There have been instances of fires and barbecues being used in Keeds Wood, which poses a serious risk to the woodland, wildlife, neighbouring properties and public safety. Even a small spark can quickly spread and cause significant damage during periods of drought.

Police patrols will be taking place in the area. Report any signs of fire immediately by calling 999, or 101.

We appreciate that the circumstances experienced by residents during the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta 2026 event were challenging, particularly given the levels of congestion and reports of vehicles parking in restricted areas.

The wider planning and organisation of the Balloon Fiesta, including the overall traffic and parking arrangements associated with the event, is the responsibility of the Balloon Fiesta organisers working with the relevant authorities. Parking management had already been identified as an area requiring careful consideration ahead of this year's event, and the Parish Council raised this during pre-event discussions.

We have received a number of comments from residents, including issues relating to parking, congestion, resident access and the effectiveness of the restrictions that were put in place.

The Parish Council has requested a post-event meeting with both the Balloon Fiesta team and North Somerset Council. We intend to raise the concerns that have been reported by residents, seek clarification on the arrangements that were in place, and discuss any lessons that can be learned to help inform planning for future events.

Calling all voluntary organisations, community groups, faith-led organisations and social enterprises (VCFSE) 📢

We’re inviting VCFSE groups to bid for funding which will help older people and those receiving care in North Somerset have better access to technology to support their social and health needs.

We’re committed to helping people in later life and people with long term health conditions increase their confidence in technology and maintain their independence.

We also want to support informal carers so they can use technology effectively while caring.

Potential areas of support that could be offered include things like:

✅ Access to the internet
✅ Setting up devices
✅ Access to social media to help people stay connected
✅ Access to online services
✅ Accessing technology enabled care
✅ Using accessibility features

We have up to £37,325 a year to allocate, for three years. We’ll accept bids from individual organisations and/or from a group of organisations, with a lead bidder.

Join us for a ‘Coffee and Cake’ morning with Lucienne Boyce. Lucienne writes historical fiction, non-fiction and biographies. Her historical fiction reflects her interest in stories of ‘ordinary’ people, and histories of reform and protest. In non-fiction, she has a particular interest in women’s history and the women’s suffrage movement, and is keen to tell the stories of the lesser-known individuals involved in that movement.
For many women the campaign for the vote was just one of a range of issues that guided their lives and work. In this talk, Lucienne will be discussing some of the women whose life-long commitments to progressive causes have inspired her own work.

⛹️‍♀️Physical Activity Fund Better 🏄‍♀️
Health North Somerset are excited to announce that round eight of the Physical Activity Fund has opened. It has a key focus on supporting more women and girls to become more active more often. They would especially like to hear from organisations where women and girls have been instrumental in how they wish to be more physically active whilst at the same time looking at what stops them from doing so. 🎈 Bristol International Balloon Fiesta 2026 – Information for Long Ashton Residents 🎈

The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta will take place at Ashton Court from Friday 7 August to Sunday 9 August 2026. A number of temporary traffic management measures will be in place to help manage the large number of visitors expected over the weekend.

Road closures and one-way systems will be in operation between 7.00pm and 2.00am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. These measures include closures on Longwood Lane, sections of the A370, and other roads around Ashton Court.

Residents should be particularly aware that a temporary one-way system on Yanley Lane, allowing traffic to travel from Glebe Road towards the A38 only. Vehicles will be able to leave Long Ashton via Yanley Lane but will not be permitted to travel in the opposite direction towards Glebe Road. Traffic signs will be displayed when the restriction is active.

A separate one-way system will operate on sections of the B3128 Ashton Road and Clevedon Road when required.

No waiting and no loading restrictions will be in force from 12:01am on Friday 7 August until 11:59pm on Sunday 9 August on a number of roads in and around Long Ashton, including parts of:
• Long Ashton Road
• Providence Lane
• Church Lane
• Glebe Road
• Parsonage Road

Residents requiring access through road closure points should have received a Resident Access Pass from the event organisers.

The Fiesta organisers also advise that access towards Bristol via the B3128 past The Ashton may not be possible between approximately 9.00pm and 11.00pm during peak event traffic management periods. During these times, residents travelling towards Bristol are advised to use alternative routes via Yanley Lane, Wild Country Lane or the A370 via Flax Bourton/Barrow Gurney.
