Sefton Council is beginning work on a new Local Plan, and residents will have an important opportunity to get involved and have their say.

The Local Plan will influence how Sefton develops in the years ahead. It will consider issues such as future housing, employment and economic development, transport and infrastructure, as well as the protection of our environment and green spaces.

For communities such as Lydiate, it is particularly important that local people take part in the process. Decisions made through the Local Plan could have a significant impact on the character of our area and the green spaces and countryside that surround us.

The development of a new Local Plan gives residents the opportunity to make their views known and help influence the decisions that will shape Sefton for many years to come.

In the meantime, take a look at this short video for an introduction to the Local Plan and why your involvement matters.

Planning Application DC/2025/01223

The proposed outline planning application of up to 450 houses on Lambshear Lane.

There has been a lot of upset and confusion over the closing dates for making comments on the planning application portal for this Lambshear Lane application.

On the website it still says the 9th September. I can assure everyone the closing date for comments is the 20th September - I have been informed by Sefton Planning and have been told the website will be updated.

Reason for extension is delayed decisions and responses. Late letters going out to residents and late responses from Developers to questions asked by planning.

As a Ward Cllr I have requested an extension of another 30 days. I have stated that there is a residents meeting that has been set for 10th September and residents need more time and support . I covered things like the impact on infrastructure, schools, Drs and dentist. Also spoke of our local farms and our greenspace.

I will find out by Friday if we have been granted an extension . 🤞🤞🤞🤞.

We are in this together.

Residents meeting 10th September, 7 p.m. at Lydiate Parish Council centre on Lambshear Lane.

Cllr Sonia Crompton

This is currently at an early stage, and we are testing the market to establish whether suitable organisations would be interested in working with us.
The current tennis courts at Sandy Lane have been identified as the preferred location, with provision for at least one tennis court to remain at the site.

* Can provide evidence of a plan to secure up to £800,000 in funding to deliver the project.
* Can demonstrate experience in the planning application process for Padel courts.
* Can demonstrate experience in project managing capital builds, including Padel.
* Preferably have a local connection and a commitment to giving back to the Lydiate community.
Expressions of interest must be received by 20 September 2026.
Interested organisations should contact Carol Farquhar, Clerk to Lydiate Parish Council, providing their organisation name and contact details:
