πŸ’œπŸ’œ Last time I posted . . . Sometimes it's not care people need. It's company πŸ’œπŸ’œ

This week has been a perfect example of that.

I've just had a voicemail from one of our newest clients saying how much they enjoyed today. They use a wheelchair and have limited mobility, but that doesn't mean they have to stay at home. We popped the wheelchair in the boot and headed off to Cirencester for an afternoon of exploring, chatting and people-watching.

And that wasn't unusual for us this week.

We've enjoyed coffee and cake at The Jolly Nice Farm Shop, visited Rave Coffee, stopped by Jackdaws CafΓ© in Malmesbury, had a lovely walk around Westonbirt Arboretum and shared fish and chips from Skippers. And that's in and amongst the jigsaws, grocery shopping and visits to Malmesbury Primary Care Centre

The common theme? Lots of conversation, laughter and getting out and about.

As we get older, life can become smaller. Driving becomes difficult, confidence can dip, friends move away and family members are often juggling work and children.

Sometimes all it takes is a friendly face, a helping hand and someone to enjoy the day with.

If you know an older person who would enjoy getting out a little more, rediscovering favourite places or simply having someone to share a coffee and a chat with, we'd love to help.

We all have our forget-me-not badges . . . so pretty and so important to raise awareness about dementia.

Share this post and make the Forget Me Not Appeal unmissable πŸ’™

We know that every Forget Me Not tells a story, and everyone has their own personal reason for wearing it. But too often, our stories go untold.

But when millions of us wear it, people have to listen.

So today, we want as many people as possible to join in and tell us why you wear your badge, and what it means to you.

Whether you wear it in honour of a loved one, for vital support services, or to fund research – share your photos, tell your story, and make sure to tag us and use the hashtag .

Let’s speak up for everyone affected by dementia and show the world we stand together in hope that we can beat it.

Every Forget Me Not tells a story.

Tell us yours.

πŸ’œ Not everyone needs care.
πŸ’œ Sometimes they just need company.

Many older people don't need help getting dressed, washing or taking medication.

What they do need is someone friendly to spend time with.

Someone who will sit and chat over a cup of tea.

Someone who will take them out for lunch, help them get to appointments, or accompany them on a trip to the garden centre.

Someone reliable who turns up each week.

Someone they know.
Someone they trust.

At A Caring Companion, we provide companionship and independent living support for older people across Malmesbury and the surrounding villages.

βœ“ Familiar faces
βœ“ Plenty of chatter
βœ“ Unhurried visits
βœ“ Support with outings and appointments
βœ“ Reassurance for families

Because growing older shouldn't mean sitting at home waiting for the day to pass.

πŸ’œ What does a companionship visit look like? πŸ’œ

Every visit is different β€” because every person is different.

A companionship visit might begin with a friendly chat over a β˜•followed by a little help around the house, a trip to the shops, a cafΓ© visit or support to attend an appointment.

Some people enjoy getting out and about, while others simply value having someone familiar to talk to at home.

There’s no rushing, no uniforms and no conveyor belt of different faces β€” just kind, consistent companionship built around the individual.

At A Caring Companion, we believe the little moments matter: ✨

Conversation
✨ Connection
✨ Reassurance
✨ Familiar faces
✨ Support to stay independent

Because life feels better with good company.

Same familiar faces. Unhurried support. Genuine companionship.

When an older parent starts becoming isolated, many families think they need care. Sometimes what they really need is companionship.

Do you think of yourself as a carer?

Many people don’t.

You might think: "I’m just looking after Mum." Or "I’m helping my husband because that’s what families do."

But if you regularly support a loved one β€” helping them stay safe, accompanying them to appointments, managing routines, offering reassurance, or simply always being there β€” you may well be a carer, even if you’ve never used that word.

With Carers Week coming up in a few weeks' time, perhaps this is your gentle reminder to think about you for a moment too.

Family carers often put themselves at the very bottom of the list. Days become routines, responsibilities grow, and little by little the things you once enjoyed can quietly disappear.

This Carers Week, perhaps make a small promise to yourself.

Resolve to do one thing just for you.

Meet a friend for coffee. Go for a walk. Visit the garden centre. Read your book uninterrupted. Enjoy a couple of hours without worrying what’s happening at home.

At A Caring Companion, we provide familiar, trusted companionship for older adults β€” including those living with dementia β€” giving family carers some gentle breathing space too.

Because caring for someone else matters. But caring for yourself matters too.

You don’t have to do everything on your own.

πŸ’œ Life is better with a caring companion.
