It’s Global Accessibility Awareness Day!

For 15 years, GAAD has promoted digital access and inclusion. And this year, also marks 5 years since the launch of the GAAD Foundation. The foundation’s mission is “to disrupt the culture of technology and digital product development to include accessibility as a core requirement”.

Digital accessibility is central to our work at Patchwork Hub. From low and no-cost digital adjustments to more strategic changes, we practice what we preach. Our services come from a place of expertise, and our strategies are tried and tested.

By working with us, you’ll strengthen your commitment to accessibility while enhancing your organisation’s social value and sustainability impact. You’ll also learn how to provide a more accessible experience for applicants, employees and clients.

Does the future of accessible work include a shorter working week for everyone?

Patchwork Hub has been very pleased to contribute to the 4 Day Week Foundation’s latest briefing paper, “How would a four-day week impact disabled people?”

We’re glad to see a campaign like 4DW engaging so seriously around accessibility and disability inclusion. It was great to contribute to some deep discussions on the potential impact of a shorter working week on employers as well as disabled people.

The paper is due for release on Thursday 21st May, Global Accessibility Awareness Day. The Foundation chose this day as a reminder that it’s vital that anyone exploring the future of work must keep disabled and neurodivergent people central to the conversation.

With innovations like the 4-day week, FlexPlus and improved digital accessibility becoming more widely known, we could soon be looking at a better way of working for everyone.

The theme for this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is ‘Action’!

Led by the UK Mental Health Foundation, Mental Health Awareness Week aims to bring the UK together to focus on improving mental health, and improving support for people experiencing mental ill health.

At Patchwork Hub, we’re proud that every team member is a Mental Health First Aider, and proud of the community-led organisations we’ve already trained to become accredited MHFAiders so they can further support their teams and clients.

This Mental Health Awareness Week is all about taking action to support our own mental health as well as in our communities and society in general. Even the smallest action can make a huge difference - a brief moment of connection could save a life.

From local to global, online to in-person, whether it’s in private or in public, we all take actions to support our mental health and that of others. What action will you take today?

May 12th is International Awareness Day for Chronic Immunological and Neurological Diseases (CIND), and it’s close to our hearts at Patchwork Hub since several of our team have lived experience of these conditions.

CIND conditions can be debilitating and they affect millions of people worldwide. Since its launch in 1992, the May 12th Awareness Day has led to greater visibility and advocacy for these often “invisible” disabilities. But much work still needs to be done.

With fluctuating symptoms and long diagnostic processes, many people with CIND struggle to access support at work. Here are a few no-cost ways you can make a difference:
• Offer flexible working where possible, to help people stay in work and perform at their best despite changing energy levels and flaring symptoms
• Offer universal adjustments upfront, so applicants and employees know they don’t need to disclose a formal diagnosis to access support
• Ensure allocated seating so employees can still attend work on reduced mobility days
• Have regular check-ins to see if adjustment needs have changed
• Focus on quality of work over presence or personal presentation, where this is reasonable

You can also book training from our team - get in touch today or book a free call with us now via patchworkhub.link/callbooking
