🌳 Trees and shrubs around Trafford have been pruned, ready for nesting season. Trafford is keeping plants healthy and maintaining great habitats for wildlife.

πŸͺΉ The work, carried out at locations such as Hullard Park in Old Trafford and Stamford Park in Altrincham, has now paused, ahead of bird nesting season. It will resume in November.

🌲 Pruning work such as this should boost the user experience of parks, support public safety and accessibility, and promote long-term plant health.

🚧 Road closures – Talbot Road & Chester Road, Old Trafford

Following a partial building collapse yesterday evening, we are using emergency powers to enable the safe demolition of a building, formerly known as Tommy's House of Fires, at the junction of Talbot Road and Chester Road.

Demolition work will begin early tomorrow morning, Friday 29 May.

To enable this essential demolition work, Talbot Road will be fully closed in both directions at its junction with Chester Road. The westbound carriageway of Chester Road near the building will also be closed to ensure public safety during the demolition and associated works.

We urge members of the public to avoid the area where possible during this time. Bus services will be affected, and those travelling through the area are advised to plan their journeys in advance and follow signed diversion routes.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and are working to complete this urgent safety work as quickly as possible, with roads expected to reopen by the afternoon of Saturday 30 May.

Trafford Council is supporting the 50th anniversary of National Smile Month, which runs until 11 June, by helping families take simple, preventative steps to protect their children’s teeth.

More than 4500 free toothbrush and toothpaste packs have already been distributed to families this year, with a further 7000 packs planned from 2026 to reach those most in need.

This is to help combat the spread of tooth decay: a quarter of five-year-olds in Trafford have had tooth decay.

Find out more, including how organisations can order the free packs online, visit the Trafford website: https://ow.ly/w06w50Z556S

Trafford in the news!

Great article from the BBC about the exhibition at the Trafford Local Studies and Archive Centre in Sale, marking nearly 90 years of Kellogg's in Trafford Park.

The free exhibition runs until the end of August so could be a fun retro-filled trip for half term or the summer holidays.

The display has everything from vintage promotional materials to a plaque honouring a royal visit.
