The IASSN Children and Young People’s Steering Group

The Information, Advice and Support Services Network (IASSN) Children and Young People’s Steering Group is made up of disabled young people and young people with special educational needs, aged 16-25. All members have previously accessed, or been involved with, their local SENDIAS service.

FREE JUNIOR MEMBERSHIPS IN MANCHESTER

This means that from late May 2026, all Manchester resident secondary school children between the ages of 11 to 16 will be able to access a free funded membership at the following council operated leisure centres across the city.

Parents / guardians of eligible children can complete the pre-registration form and will be contacted directly with further details.

General access arrangements

Adjustments to exams are called access arrangements. Listed below are some examples of the access arrangements you may need when you’re taking internal or external exams or assessments.

Most education providers and examining bodies will have made exam arrangements for individual students before. But they may not have come across all possible arrangements as support needs vary from person to person.

You may need extra time or opportunities to take rest breaks during exams

You may need exam papers in your preferred format, such as braille, enlarged or coloured papers

f you use assistive technology on your course, you should be able to use it for your exams e.g. computer equipment, specialist software, a computer reader or a scribe. It’s important that technical support is on hand in case there are any problems with equipment

You may need to use a separate room so that you’re not disturbed by other candidates, and they are not disturbed by you

You may need assistance from another person as a practical assistant, prompter, a scribe or as a reader. Your assistant should have time before the exam to get used to their role, the style and format of the test and any subject- related issues.

You may need to sit your exam at an alternative locaton.

Post-16 phase transfers
Is your child transferring from secondary school to a post-16 institution this year?
Do they have an EHC plan?

The deadline for local authorities to review and amend EHC plans for post-16 phase transfers is 31 March. If you haven’t received your child’s amended EHC plan by this date, IPSEA have a template letter you can use to write to your local authority.
