Hiring the right people can make a huge difference to a growing business. For Adam, one of the biggest lessons has been the importance of having a clear, structured recruitment process, starting with knowing exactly who and what the business needs.

Get the role right. Get the process right. Give yourself a better chance of getting the person right.

Fire Safety Done Well at Lloyds Motor Group

A positive Fire Risk Assessment Review at Lloyds Motor Group in Ripon, where good preparation and consistent fire safety management were clear to see.

Compliance documentation was readily available, in-house checks were being completed, and servicing and maintenance arrangements were firmly in place.

Regular Fire Risk Assessment reviews are important because workplaces, equipment and working practices can change over time. Reviewing these arrangements helps businesses identify any new risks and ensure existing fire safety measures remain effective.

A special mention to Peter and Arlene for their involvement throughout the review and their continued commitment to maintaining high standards.

A great example of how good systems, regular checks and consistent action support effective fire safety.

Preparing for Winter Starts at the End of Harvest

As harvest comes to an end, now is the time to give machinery the attention it needs before winter storage.

Removing crop residue, dust and chaff, checking for defects, completing servicing and considering potential pest damage can help reduce fire risks, prevent costly repairs and make sure equipment is ready when the next season begins.

And a special Golden Combine Award goes to one of our customers who took good housekeeping to another level. Their combine was so meticulously cleaned it looked almost showroom-ready.

A great example of how a little extra time spent on maintenance and housekeeping now can make a real difference later.

Clean it. Check it. Maintain it. Store it safely.

Supporting a Proactive Approach to Health & Safety

A productive visit with the team at Hughes Electrical, reviewing their current health and safety management arrangements and discussing how these are managed across the business.

It was also useful to see their Xoralia online portal in action, providing a central place for policies, risk assessments and safe systems of work.

During the visit, we identified that their Fire Risk Assessment is due for renewal, so a referral has now been made for AW Safety to support them with the next steps.

A great example of how regular reviews can help businesses stay on top of their responsibilities and identify what needs attention before it becomes an issue.

Thank you to the Hughes Electrical team for the warm welcome and positive approach. We look forward to continuing to work together.

Emergency lighting. Would yours work when you need it most?

Emergency lighting plays a vital role in helping people evacuate safely during a fire or power failure, but it can easily be overlooked during day-to-day operations.

During a recent Fire Risk Assessment, we identified an emergency light that was not operating correctly. It may seem like a small issue, but in an emergency, reliable lighting can make a significant difference.

Regular monthly checks can help identify faults early, while annual servicing and testing by a competent person helps ensure the system remains effective and compliant.

Our Fire Risk Assessments look beyond the obvious hazards, helping businesses identify practical improvements that strengthen their overall fire safety arrangements.

Don't wait for an emergency to discover something isn't working.

Is Your RPE Providing the Protection You Think It Is?

Respiratory Protective Equipment can only do its job when it is correctly fitted, clean and properly maintained.

A damaged seal, dirty respirator or filters that need replacing can significantly reduce protection and leave workers exposed to harmful fumes, vapours and airborne particles.

Employers should ensure suitable RPE, face fit testing, training and replacement filters are provided. Employees should also check their equipment before every use and report any issues immediately.

A quick check before starting work could prevent long-term exposure and serious health risks.

Clean it. Check the fit. Check the filters.

Two days well spent with the AW Safety team.

Day one was all about strategy, sharing ideas and planning what's next. Day two took us out of the office and into the trees at Go Ape for some proper team building.

A great opportunity to bring everyone together, reset and enjoy some time as a team outside of the usual working day.

After a well-earned week off, Harry was straight back on the road, visiting four Orega sites across the Thames Valley region to complete updated Fire Risk Assessments and Annual Health & Safety Audits.

A big thank you from Harry to each of the site teams for being so welcoming, well prepared and engaged throughout the visits. Their professionalism helped make each audit straightforward and productive.

Orega continues to take a proactive approach to health and safety across its serviced office spaces, and we're pleased to work alongside their teams to help maintain safe, compliant and well-managed workplaces.

Great work from everyone involved.

Fire Risk Assessments are not a one-time exercise. Regular reviews help ensure that control measures remain effective, actions have been completed, and any changes to the workplace are properly assessed.

During a recent visit to Cheeky Monkey, Adam Wade joined Martin as they carried out a Fire Risk Assessment review, ensuring the site continues to meet the required standards following recent changes.

It's encouraging to work with businesses that take a proactive approach to fire safety, reviewing their arrangements regularly and maintaining consistent standards across multiple locations.
