Project Update: James Power Services Kicks Off 2026

It’s been a high-energy start to the year. From the ground up to the overhead lines, our team has been delivering critical power infrastructure across the board. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:
Key Highlights
• High-Voltage Solutions: Successfully installed a new Ring Main and a High-Voltage Metering Unit for a major industrial client.
• DNO Substation Replacement: Managed the full end-to-end replacement of an 11,000V Distribution Network Operator (DNO) substation.
• Capacity Upgrades: Swapped an aging indoor 200 kVA unit for a more robust 500 kVA transformer, complete with a new Ring Main Unit (RMU) and fuse cabinet.

At James Power Services safety is the priority, I was just reminiscing about the old times and remembering a poem I once heard at a safety briefing many years ago from Mr Middleton that has stuck with me.

“I Chose to Look the Other Way”

I could have saved a life that day, But I chose to look the other way. It wasn’t that I didn’t care, I had the time, and I was there.

But I didn’t want to seem a fool, Or argue over a . I knew he’d done the job before, If I spoke up, he might get sore.

The chances didn’t seem that bad, I’d done the same, He knew I had. So I shook my head and walked on by, He knew the risks as well as I.

He took the chance, I closed an eye, And with that act, I let him die. I could have saved a life that day, But I chose to look the other way.

Now every time I see his wife, I’ll know, I should have saved his life. That guilt is something I must bear, But it isn’t something you need share.

If you see a risk that others take, That puts their health or life at stake. The question asked, or thing you say, Could help them live another day.

If you see a risk and walk away, Then hope you never have to say, I could have saved a life that day, But I chose, to look the other way.

James Power Services has been engaged in the installation of a new 11kV substation, which has enabled the supply of power to a state-of-the-art airfield control tower.

The scope of the works undertaken encompassed the following:

- Installation of high and low voltage cables
- All off-site civil works
- Commissioning of equipment
- HV jointing and cable terminations
- LV jointing and cable terminations
- HV network shutdowns and LV backfeeding

Our team was responsible for managing and planning the entire project.

James Power Services successfully concluded a demanding two-week project for Freedom Group. This involved the installation of 300 meters of low- and high-voltage cabling, construction of a new precast base, earthing and commissioning, and installation of a new substation. The substation comprises two high-voltage switches and a dedicated low-voltage supply, fed by a new high-voltage pole termination, incorporating a high-voltage branch joint and a new feed to the existing low-voltage overhead line. Following this, the team removed and decommissioned the obsolete overhead transformer and redundant low-voltage overhead lines. We received assistance from Ralph Davies on this project, utilizing a Tirfor to remove the old transformer due to challenging access conditions. Ralph Davies
