When the Government ignores residents and chooses the worst possible option, one that benefits its Labour allies in local government, people are entitled to ask: why should we believe anything it says?

It claimed its plans local government reform had cross-party support. They did not.

Now it appears Leicestershire and Leicester Labour councillors were consulted weeks before others about possible ward and divisional boundaries for the new unitary authorities.

This is not fair, open or transparent. Leicestershire’s communities are being carved up through a process that increasingly looks politically rigged.

Our county is under attack. We must fight back.

Leicestershire residents do not need delusional claims of a “Golden Age” after 12 months of self-congratulatory social media, policy reversals and unproven savings. They need competent delivery, honest leadership and services that actually improve.
