Higginson Park Centenary Celebrations

I was delighted as your Marlow Buckinghamshire Councillor & Chairman of Marlow Museum to welcome Dr Sheena D***s BEM ( DL) Deputy Lord Lieutenant , Cllr John Chilver , Chairman of Buckinghamshire Council, together with Lord Ashbrook and the descendants of General Sir George Higginson to the Centenary Celebrations yesterday ( Saturday 20th June ) which also coincided with the 200th Birthday of General Sir George Higginson.

The event centred around the Little Green Boat Cafe and children’s play area ; community events included Art in the Park , Marlow Ukulele Group, Esta B Jazz Band , Heritage walks with Marlow Museum , & Children’s activities with children’s author Simon Mole .

There was a ceremonial planting of a Green Pillar Oak to mark the centenary of Higginson Park by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Lord Ashbrook ( great-grandson of General Higginson ) & Philip McKenzie esq( great-grandson of General Higginson) , supported by the Inkerman regiment of the Grenadier Guards ( General Higginson was their commanding officer)

New information boards across the whole park have been created in collaboration between Buckinghamshire Council and Marlow Museum and very generously supported by Lightfoot Solicitors.

Thanks to members of the Higginson family, the museum has a special exhibition at the museum to celebrate the life of General Sir George Higginson available to visitors between today (Sunday 21st June) until 22nd July.

This was the first of a series of events in the park to mark the centenary over the next year.

Marlow Padel Courts Approved

I am pleased to announce that Buckinghamshire Planning Committee unanimously supported my proposal to approve the Marlow Padel Courts Application on land next to Crowne Plaza , Marlow.

It was accepted that this proposal for 11 courts and a clubhouse , that will be purpose built for everyone , including specifically wheelchair users , met the very special circumstances to be built in the Green Belt.

It will provide both a community hub and a regional, national centre for international and global events.

I would specifically like to praise Kirsten Paskins who spoke so passionately and with a level of detail and clarity that it enabled the committee to support the proposal unanimously.

I look forward to the facility being delivered in the near future.
