The sun’s out, the skies are blue… and the great outdoors is calling everyone’s name ☀️🏕️🔥

But along with this cracking weather comes a not-so-fun guest: wildfire season.

A quick reminder while you’re living your best BBQ-and-camping life:
🔥 Dry grass + a small flame = Can be a very big problem
🔥 Disposable BBQs can stay hot for hours (even when you think they’re “definitely out”)
🔥 Glass bottles can act like mini magnifying glasses in the sun
🔥 One careless moment can lead to miles of damage to wildlife, land, and local communities.

Yesterday after thankfully stocking up our snack box in preparation for the season, our crew were mobilised all the way to Creetown, teaming up with colleagues from Girvan and Colmonnel to relieve Dumfries and Galloway crews who had been battling a wildfire for some time. A long journey....and a suspiciously more empty snack box by the end of it 🍫👀

So if you’re out enjoying the sunshine:
✔️ Take your litter home
✔️ Avoid lighting fires or BBQs in dry areas
✔️ Make sure ci******es are fully out
✔️ Report any signs of fire early

Stay safe and enjoy the weather responsibly! 🚒

On Monday evening, the Maybole crew joined Blue Watch Ayr for a joint training session at a local river. The exercise focused on shore based techniques that can be used to rescue a casualty from the water using throwlines, followed by a demonstration from the Swift Water Rescue team. They showcased how their specialist PPE and equipment can be used by them to safely wade across the river to reach and rescue a casualty.

The crew also had the opportunity to view the Supplementary Equipment Vehicle (SEV) and learn more about the wide range of useful equipment it carries.

The session provided a valuable opportunity to work together, share skills, and gain a better understanding of the capabilities available during water-related incidents. It also highlighted how crews can effectively support one another when attending these types of emergencies.

Joint training like this strengthens teamwork, enhances operational knowledge, and helps ensure crews are prepared to respond safely and efficiently when called upon.

Great teamwork from everyone involved! 👏🚒🌊

Tonight we had a lovely meal as a crew at the Greenside to give a proper send-off to CC Jim Hewitt — although anyone who knows Jim will know he’d much rather have slipped out quietly without any fuss! After more than 27 years of dedicated service as a wholetime firefighter, Jim has officially hung up his helmet, and now he’s decided it’s the right time to hand in the pager too, bringing to a close his years of steadfast service to the community of Maybole and the surrounding areas.

Jim has never been one for the spotlight, but tonight is about recognising the incredible commitment, loyalty, and quiet dedication he has shown throughout his career. Maybole has been safer for having him, and we have all been better for serving alongside him.

Jim, thank you for everything you’ve given. We wish you a long, happy, and well-earned retirement.

A huge thank you to our brilliant community for making December 2025 so festive and fun.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the recent Christmas party — the staff had a brilliant time dressing up as inflatables, proving that while we’re excellent at handling pressure, walking through doorways is a whole different emergency! 🎄🎈

From everyone at Maybole Fire Station, we wish you a safe, happy, and very Merry Christmas…...and please remember, Santa prefers chimneys, not overloaded extension leads! 🎄🚒
