Did you know we were close to Alton Towers - about 15minute drive? This makes it the perfect location to explore the Peaks and keep the adventurous thrill seekers happy too. From recent visitors the teens unanimously voted Smiler the best ride - they went on a cold day and managed to get on multiple times 😳 with Galactica a close second. The mid 50s group settled on Wicker Man and did brave some of the thrilling ones. All in all they had a fab time. We don’t mean to boast but Ashbourne now has a bookshop 😄! What a lovely addition to our lovely nearby town. Great range including a children’s section. Perfect place to have a mooch in the independent shops and find a cafe to watch the world go by.

It’s been a rather wild week this week! We got a message that a young capybara had been left behind at the weekend. Before we could send out a search party we were horrified to be sent a ransom note 😱. Our lovely cleaner Salvo dashed up on a rescue mission. The ingenious capybara had escaped its captors (phew) but now was a bit spooked so somewhat gave Salvo the runaround as it was not sure of his intentions. Eventually peace was restored with a bribe of a carrot and the young capybara is set to be reunited soon. All is well that ends well although the capybaranapper is still at large.

Not got your plans sorted for half term next week? Historical Old Hall has availability - big enough to sleep 10 but cosy enough for a family adventure. If it’s raining outside 🌨️ snuggle up with a good book by the fires 🔥 or have a family games day. Based very close to Ashbourne there are lots of amazing walks in the Peaks with lots of villages in the area having pubs 🍺 with hearty food and roaring fires. It also Shrovetide football in Ashbourne next week if you want to see something unique. Growing old gracefully! Old Hall is 400 years old and doesn't she look rather fabulous still? We are going to celebrate 400 years for the next 12 months as how often you got get to say you are that old (unless you are a Greenland shark maybe). Old Hall is the perfect place to celebrate a special birthday in style or simply meet up with friends and family and share a tipple around the fireplaces. Old Hall has stood through 400 years of history. To mark the 80th Anniversay of VE Day we have added this book created by one of the nearby church’s at Brailsford to Old Hall. They also put on a thought provoking display. In it local people recall their experiences - as ever we must take time to listen to those that still have first hand memories.

Good news at Old Hall we now have an additional bathroom thanks to the team at Distinct Bathrooms! We have converted one of our bathrooms into two (with all the correct consents as it is a listed building!) so now the property has three bathrooms in total which is much more family friendly. Took the opportunity for a freshen up while we were closed and Steve Rogers and team did a cracking job painting. We have availability on the first May bank holiday and some of the summer weeks if you fancy taking the opportunity to explore the Peak District.
