🔥 Wildfires are rising in Suffolk. Last year alone, the Fire and Rescue Service attended 310 outdoor fires - that’s 105 more incidents than the year before.

⚠️ Behind every number is scorched land, destroyed habitats, and wildlife lost.

🌡️ With another heatwave arriving this weekend, the risk is dangerously high - and one careless action is all it takes.

Here's what you can do to prevent a wildfire starting:
• Avoid lighting barbecues and campfires near vegetation such as grass, heathland or woodland - only use them in designated safe areas
• Leave no trace - take all litter home or dispose of it in bins provided
• Fully extinguish ci******es and recycle vapes responsibly
• Douse disposable barbecues with water, let them cool and bin them at home - never in public bins

Don't be the reason a fire starts this weekend.

🔥 We’re working with the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service to spread awareness of the dangers of wildfires and the devastating impact they can have on wildlife and their habitats.

Let’s all work together to keep Suffolk safe by:

🔥 This we're joining forces with Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service to raise awareness of the dangers of wildfires to help protect Suffolk's wildlife and their habitats.

Our new campaign aims to raise awareness of how wildfires can start - and, crucially, how we can all prevent them.

During dry, hot conditions, even a small spark can cause serious damage to our wildlife and natural spaces.

Do your part to keep Suffolk safe:

A great example of how concealed and easily damaged or disturbed nests on the ground can be.

It's nesting bird season from March to the end of August, and they need your help to raise their chicks successfully.

Ground nesting birds are found in an incredibly wide range of environments, including woodlands, grasslands, beaches, wetlands, and heathlands. This nest was found in grassland at Snape Marshes on the Suffolk Coast. Can you tell us in the comments whose eggs they are?

To help protect these species, please:
⚠ Follow requests on signs.
🐾Keep paws on paths. That includes people too!

These steps will help prevent disturbance. Disturbance to breeding birds can result in accidental trampling, nest abandonment, and an increase in predation as chicks and eggs are left unprotected. Unfortunately, as much as we love them, some dogs will even predate chicks and eggs themselves.

It takes a lot of energy to impress a mate, build a nest, lay eggs, keep them warm and then feed the chicks. Just like human parents, they are exhausted. Let's give them the space to let them focus on the job at hand.

🦭 With the long bank holiday weekend almost here, and many people planning to head to the beach, we're reminding the public to take care of they find seals.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue have shared guidance on the important things we should all do.

🐶 STOP – And keep dogs on leads
↔️ SPACE – Don’t get close and give seals 100 metres space
🤫 SILENCE – Seals are easily disturbed so keep quiet to avoid startling them
💤 SLEEP – Seals need sleep, if you see one watching you it may start to feel distressed
📞 SUPPORT – If you are concerned about a seal’s welfare call British Divers Marine Life Rescue on 01825 765 546

🪶 With the nights getting longer and the weather getting warmer, we're looking forward to our Nightjar and Heathland Guided Walks happening this summer!

This July and August join our Wildlife Rangers as we explore Sutton and Hollesley Heaths as we look and listen out for the elusive nightjar and distinctive woodlark.

During the events running from 7.45pm - 10pm we'll be talking about the things we can all do to protect one of Suffolk’s rarest and most threatened habitats such as:
🛑 Following signage correctly
🐕‍🦺 Keeping dogs on short leads in heathland areas from 1 March to 31 August
🛣️ Sticking to paths
