Today is Emergency Services Day, a national day across the UK where we honour the 2 million people serving in our NHS and emergency services. From first responders to behind the scenes, paid and volunteers, our country is a safer place for their service.

Thank you to our team of volunteer Community First Responders and to all those who support us - and to the amazing full time members of the 999 services that serve 24/7 - we are honoured to work alongside you and do our little bit to help our community 💚💙❤️🧡

A huge thank you to Chris & Phil Clay and all the team at White House Farm Misterton for the amazing donation they have given to Five Villages First Responders (Misterton).

Over £9000 was raised at their recent Party on the Field - Charity Event and has been very kindly split between five good causes.

We have received a fabulous amount of £1,822 and would like to thank Chris, Phil and everyone involved in the event, including the bands and artists who performed, all those who worked so hard to make the event happen and all those who attended, supported and donated.

Such donations help us to continue the voluntary work that we do within the local community, including providing equipment to our Community First Responders and supporting public access defibrillator sites.

“To think that the defibrillator I applied for saved someone's life does make me feel very proud."

Yesterday, we shared Adrian's story of surviving a cardiac arrest. Today, we're sharing the story of Jill, the woman who helped make sure a lifesaving defibrillator was there when he needed it most.

Just weeks before Adrian's cardiac arrest, Jill successfully applied for a defibrillator through the BHF's Community Defibrillator Programme for her local church in Plymouth.

As the defibrillator's guardian, Jill received a text on Christmas Day to say the device had been accessed. It was taken across the road to the pub where bystanders were already performing CPR and delivered two shocks helping Adrian survive.

"I think it's amazing the defibrillator we campaigned for helped to save Adrian's life. We live on a steep hill so by the time someone had run to the next nearest defibrillator, it wouldn't have been anything like as quick. I'm one of those people who just likes to get things done, so to think that the defibrillator I applied for saved someone's life does make me feel very proud."

Despite another very hot weekend 🥵 several of our team have been booked on duty and available to respond should they be needed via East Midlands Ambulance Service, with 4 call outs attended. A big thank you to all of our team of volunteer Community First Responders for their continued dedication and hard work 🙌🏻💚

Our team coordinator, Martyn, has been out and about this morning helping to keep our network of local Public Access Defibrillators ready for action. Pads checked and a battery changed 🪫 🔋 Lovely weather for it 🥵😎☀️

We help to support many local organisations across Misterton, Beckingham, West Stockwith, Walkeringham, Gringley on the Hill, Clayworth, Everton and more to keep their Community Public Access Defibrillators ready, available and registered on the national Defibrillator database “The Circuit”, to ensure they are primed to be used if they are needed for a cardiac arrest in the community 💚

During hot weather, it’s more important than ever to know where your nearest defibrillator is. Extreme heat can put extra strain on the heart and in a cardiac emergency, using a defibrillator alongside CPR can more than double someone’s chance of survival. Taking a few minutes now to locate your nearest defibrillator could help save a life. Find your nearest defibrillator now: defibfinder.uk If 999 directs you to get one, you’ll already know where to find it.

Responsible for a defibrillator?
Make sure it’s registered on The Circuit, confirm it’s working, and record your check on The Circuit so ambulance services know it’s emergency ready and can locate it quickly if needed.

❤️ Free heart start and first aid course ❤️

Next week, Thursday 9th July

Doors open at 5pm (if you want to grab a drink before) and the course starts at 5.30, hosted by John Armson

The event will go through what to do if someone is in cardiac arrest, how to do chest compressions, how to use a defib and other first aid such as choking and wounds.

Suitable for both children and adults- everyone welcome

Come down, spend a couple of hours with us and learn how to save a life ❤️

With the hot weather continuing, please stay safe when in and around open water 🌊🌞

It may look like the perfect way to cool down, but the water can still be extremely cold. There are also hidden dangers under the water which could hurt you.

If you do get into trouble in water, then try to float and shout for help. If you see somebody struggling in water, please don't go in after them - always call 999 📞🛟
