GADZOOKS and SHIVER ME TIMBERS……there that’s got your attention, nothing to do with Saturday but good words, however more good words are, it’s free, absolutely no charges as it’s Open Day at Oystermouth Castle this Saturday 14th September from 11am to 4pm.

Not only is it free we have Gower Unearthed with a super Rune Workshop, a top finds expert that will help identify and explain that strange thing you found in the cellar or garden, the Swansea Metal Detectorists with loads of finds from cannonballs to dinky toys, we also have the fabulous ShantyJaks belting out some great tooooones that you can join in with and last but not least we have your brilliant castle to explore with a myriad of cellars, rooms and dungeons….we imagine Dave the Dragon and his chums will also be there !!

So why not pop along and say hi, the lovely Friends of Oystermouth Castle who will be there to welcome you to the castle and be able to explain how much fun the friends of the castle have while keeping the castle in pristine condition for you and all the other visitors and course answer any questions about the castle.

If you have any memorabilia concerning the castle please bring it along to show us or anything you’ve always wondered about, that’s been sitting on a shelf unidentified !!

JUBILEE BEACON LIGHTING EVENT, OYSTERMOUTH CASTLE
Mumbles Community Council are delighted to announce that the beacon on the top of Oystermouth Castle will be lit at 9.15pm on Thursday, June 2 in celebration of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Gethin Jones will be presenting live within Oystermouth Castle grounds for the BBC One programme Platinum Beacons: Lighting up the Jubilee, which is broadcasting live from beacon lighting events in Scotland, Northern Ireland, England and various Commonwealth countries. The Oystermouth beacon will be the penultimate one lit before the Principal Beacon in Buckingham Palace.

The City of Swansea Pipe Band will be playing national Jubilee tunes, circus performers will be entertaining, local school children will be showing off their Jubilee artwork and our proceedings will be supported by The Friends of Oystermouth Castle and The Ostreme Players. Please come along to the castle at 8.30pm.

There is also a Vintage St Party on Newton Road from 2pm on that same day. Food stalls, fairground rides and music - everyone welcome!

Our season is drawing to a close and what a great summer we’ve had welcoming visitors back to the Castle - over 1500 people have enjoyed a guided tour!

The Castle will be open on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday this week for guided tours - Saturday will be our last day of tours for the summer season.
