And just like that, August is over!

It’s been another incredibly busy month for the SWMS team, with our crews working across a huge variety of events, environments and challenges.

We’ve now completed the final Castell Roc event for another year, providing medical cover throughout a fantastic run of live music at the incredible Chepstow Castle. It’s been a privilege to support these events and work alongside all the teams involved in delivering them safely.

We also returned to Walters Arena for Dawn to Dusk, where our medical and rescue teams worked across some extremely challenging terrain and conditions. From medical provision at the event village to 4x4 off-road response out on the course, it’s exactly the sort of environment where our specialist event medical and rescue capability comes into its own.

But August wasn’t just about events…

This month also marked a major milestone for our training centre, as we successfully delivered our first FREC 4 course! Our candidates were put through five days of intensive training, combining classroom learning with practical skills and realistic scenarios designed around the situations they may genuinely encounter while working in pre-hospital care.

For us, that’s an important part of how we want to deliver training: real scenarios, real equipment, real locations and training delivered by clinicians with real-world experience.

So August finishes with:

Castell Roc 2026 — Complete.
Dawn to Dusk 2026 — Complete.
Our first FREC 4 — Complete.

A massive thank you to every member of the SWMS team who has worked throughout August, as well as the organisers, contractors, venues and other professionals we’ve had the pleasure of working alongside.

Now it’s time to see what September has in store!

🏁 Another year at Walters Arena complete! 🚑

And what a weekend it’s been!

A massive thank you to every member of our team who has put in an incredible amount of effort over the last 40+ hours. From long days and late nights to working out on the course in some very challenging conditions, everyone has worked incredibly hard to help keep the event running safely.

We’re extremely grateful to have such a dedicated team who continue to give their all, whatever the weather or conditions throw at them.

A huge thank you as well to Outdoor Welsh Events for putting on another fantastic event at Walters Arena. It’s always a pleasure working alongside the organisers, marshals and everyone behind the scenes who makes an event of this scale possible.

Another Walters Arena event in the books — tired, muddy, but job done! 💪🚑

🚑 OUR FREC 4 COURSE IS WELL UNDERWAY! 🚑

Our 6 FREC 4 candidates are now on Day 4 of 5, developing the knowledge, practical skills and confidence needed to progress within pre-hospital emergency care.

At South Wales Medical Services, we believe FREC training should be about far more than sitting in a classroom.

Our candidates are taken out into real-world environments and challenged with realistic scenarios designed by experienced clinicians. These scenarios are based around the types of incidents they could genuinely encounter throughout their careers.

🌲 Real locations
🚑 Realistic emergency scenarios
🩺 Clinician-designed training
🎒 Hands-on use of equipment
👥 Teamwork and decision-making under pressure
📚 Classroom knowledge put into practice

From managing casualties in difficult and remote locations to assessment, treatment, immobilisation and casualty evacuation, we want our candidates to leave the course having experienced training that is as close to the real world as we can safely make it.

Training shouldn’t just prepare you to pass an assessment — it should prepare you for the day somebody genuinely needs your help.

Interested in joining us?

We have an upcoming FREC 3 course and will also be running our next FREC 4 course.

🚑 WHEN IT COMES TO MEDICAL COVER, PRICE SHOULDN’T BE THE ONLY QUESTION.

Over the last almost five years, South Wales Medical Services has grown by doing things properly, consistently and professionally.

We’ve seen the industry change considerably during that time, with new providers entering the market and increasingly competitive prices being offered.

Competition is healthy. It gives clients choice and keeps established providers moving forward.

But when you are appointing a company to take responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of your customers, staff or event attendees, the cheapest quotation should never automatically be the deciding factor.

A medical provider needs more than a uniform, a vehicle and a first aid kit.

Behind every deployment should be the things you don’t necessarily see:

✅ Appropriately qualified and experienced personnel
✅ Robust clinical governance and operational procedures
✅ Appropriate insurance
✅ Safeguarding procedures
✅ Risk assessments and operational planning
✅ Suitable, maintained and properly equipped vehicles
✅ Appropriate medical equipment
✅ Staff competency and training records
✅ Infection prevention and control procedures
✅ Medicines governance where applicable
✅ Incident reporting and clinical governance
✅ Contingency and escalation arrangements
✅ Professional management and accountability

At South Wales Medical Services, these aren’t things we suddenly think about when a contract comes along. They form part of how we operate every day.

🚑 EVENT MEDICAL COVER

From smaller community events and sporting fixtures through to festivals and larger public events, we can provide scalable medical resources appropriate to the event and its assessed risk.

🚑 PATIENT TRANSPORT

We also provide professional patient transport solutions, with suitable vehicles, equipment and trained personnel.

🎓 TRAINING

We are also a Qualsafe Centre, delivering professional regulated training from our dedicated training facilities in South Wales.

🇬🇧 AND WHAT ABOUT CQC?

This is an important distinction for Welsh clients.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulates health and social care services in England – it does not perform that role in Wales.

Wales has its own regulatory framework, including Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) for services that fall within its scope.

That makes proper due diligence particularly important when procuring event medical and patient transport services.

So when comparing quotations, don’t simply ask:

“How much?”

Ask:

Who are you sending?
What qualifications do they hold?
What clinical governance is in place?
What equipment will they have?
What vehicles are being supplied?
What insurance do you hold?
What policies and procedures support the service?
What happens when something goes wrong?
And, most importantly, can you demonstrate it?

A cheaper quote may save money on paper.

The real question is what has been removed, reduced or compromised to achieve that price?

After almost five years of providing medical services across South Wales and beyond, we’re proud of what we’ve built.

The right people.
The right equipment.
The right vehicles.
The right policies.
The experience to deliver.

We won’t always be the cheapest provider.

We don’t aim to be.

We aim to provide a service that event organisers, venues, patients and partner organisations can rely on when it matters.
