Scheduled Maintenance at Balderton Lake

8-12 June 2026

Balderton Parish Council wishes to inform residents that its specialist contractor will be undertaking planned aquatic w**d removal works at Balderton Lake from Monday 8 June to Friday 12 June 2026.

This programme forms part of the Council’s ongoing maintenance and management of the lake. The works have been planned in consultation with Grove Angling Club, which has communicated to its members that fishing will be suspended from 8 to 12 June to enable the contractor to undertake the works safely and efficiently.

The Council has also worked closely with its contractor to fully understand the proposed methodology and the measures that will be taken to minimise potential impacts on wildlife. This includes arrangements to identify and monitor nesting birds and, where necessary, establish appropriate exclusion zones around nesting areas and other sensitive habitats to protect wildlife throughout the duration of the works.

Separately, the Council has continued to liaise with the relevant authorities following the recent tragic incident at the lake. Following these discussions and having received the appropriate assurances and guidance from the relevant authorities, the Council has been advised that the planned maintenance works may proceed as scheduled.

During the works, aquatic w**d will be removed from the lake and placed in three designated areas around the site. This allows insects and small vertebrates the opportunity to return naturally to the water. After approximately one week, the dried w**d will be made available free of charge to local gardeners and allotment holders for use as a natural compost. Details of collection arrangements will be published on the Parish Council’s website and page.

The contractor will access the lake from the area near Peg 1. For safety reasons, residents and visitors are kindly asked to keep clear of the working area while the maintenance is being carried out.

Balderton Parish Council thanks residents, anglers and other lake users for their patience, understanding and cooperation while this important maintenance work is undertaken.

If you have any questions regarding the works, please contact the Parish Office:

Thank you to our excellent grounds team for responding so quickly to residents’ concerns about the deer in Mount Road Cemetery on Monday and Tuesday. The deer appears to be making its own way in and out of the site, so we’ll continue to monitor the situation. Your care and professionalism never go unnoticed.

And an equally big thank you to Cllr Jean Hall, Jane and Warsop Wildlife Rescue for their swift action today on Catkin Way, looking after a distressed juvenile swan. Our community is lucky to have such dedicated people looking out for local wildlife.
