Blidworth officers have secured a banning order against a shoplifter with a long history of thieving.

Gary Frew has been responsible for tormenting shops in Blidworth and Rainworth on and off for some time now.

Tesco Express stores in Mansfield Road, Blidworth, and Kirklington Road, Rainworth, have both found themselves targeted by the 48-year-old.

Frew is known to have stolen from the Mansfield Road-based shop on at least 15 separate occasions since the end of 2024, while also helping himself to items from Tesco in Rainworth too.

His regular offending has meant he's become a familiar face to staff in the stores and officers in our neighbourhood beat teams – meaning he was quickly identified after stealing from the Blidworth store on 27 June.

Having helped himself to packs of steaks on that occasion, Frew's face and name were circulated to us, with our officers then spotting and arresting him while they were on patrol in Blidworth.

He was subsequently charged with shop theft, with the Blidworth beat team managing to obtain a criminal behaviour order (CBO) by the time he admitted the offence at Mansfield Magistrates' Court last Tuesday (25 August).

Under the order, Frew, of Oak Avenue, Blidworth, is banned from entering Tesco Express in Blidworth and Rainworth for three years and will find himself before the courts facing criminal charges – and potentially prison – should he do this.

Sergeant Christian Hurley said: “We’re delighted to have obtained this CBO against Frew, who has persistently broken the law and stolen items from shops in our community.

"Having this order in place means that, should Frew continue to target our shops with his thieving, he will more than likely find himself behind bars.

"The neighbourhood beat team put in a lot of work to help secure this order, which we hope provides some reassurance to local business owners and shows how seriously we take this offending.

“We do find that a lot of shoplifting offences are carried out by the same group of repeat offenders, so anything we can do to stop these individuals is undoubtedly a good thing."

"I honestly felt alright."

These are the words of a drink driver caught by officers after a road traffic collision.

The 25-year-old woman was arrested in Edwards Lane in the early hours of 26 June when she lost control and rolled her car onto its roof.

Thankfully, she was uninjured but did blow more than twice the legal limit.

During a full and frank admission to officers in interview, she admitted to drinking three to four bottles of l***r during a work leaving do.

The driver admitted she'd been 'an idiot' and was later disqualified from driving for 20 months.

We are currently running a public awareness campaign on the everyday consequences of people losing their licence because of a drink-drive conviction, and the shame, embarrassment and inconvenience that comes with it.

🫵 How would a driving ban affect your life?

🏫 How would you get to work or take your children to school?

😦 How would your family or employer react?

These are questions we are currently asking drivers of all ages because drink driving also kills careers, relationships, and family lives.

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of weapon offences after we acted on intelligence reports in Edwinstowe.

Fi****ms officers were called to Clipstone Road at around 6pm on Tuesday (25 August) following information that a wanted man was in the area.

According to intelligence, the wanted man had previously been in possession of an offensive weapon, potentially a fi***rm, in the Lincolnshire area.

When our officers arrived in Edwinstowe, they identified two vehicles in a car park near South Forest Leisure Centre. After stopping the vehicles, one of the occupants attempted to flee but was quickly detained.

A search of the vehicles did not uncover a fi***rm; however, officers recovered a large quantity of cash from the boot of one vehicle, as well as a machete.

Three men, aged 43, 35 and 31, were arrested on suspicion of possession of a fi***rm and possession of criminal property.

They remain in police custody while our enquiries continue.

Detective Inspector Luke Waller said: "Based on information available to us, we had reason to believe one of the suspects may have been in possession of an offensive weapon, potentially a viable fi***rm.

"While no fi***rm was recovered, we understand the concern and potential harm associated with weapons of this nature, and we take all reports extremely seriously.

"These arrests were the result of a coordinated operation involving multiple police units.

"We remain committed to pursuing intelligence-led investigations and doing everything we can to keep dangerous weapons off our streets and protect our communities."

❓ Did you know, in 2025 there were 1,435 drink and drug driving offences in Nottinghamshire? 1,191 were male and 233 were female.

Remember, drink driving offences don't just include those who drive after the night out, it’s about whether you’re safe and fit to drive the next day too.
