Combine colder weather with less household income to spend on heating, and that makes the need even greater here in the North East.

Today Kim McGuinness- North East Mayor joined the second Warm Homes Summit to highlight how devolution of retrofit is the best way to deliver lower energy bills for North East residents, and increase opportunities for sustainable green jobs across the supply chain. 📉

More devolution, more powers, better retrofit programmes delivered, lower energy bills, and more warm homes. 🤝

We're excited to launch the North East Youth Trust Fund (YTF) campaign! 🎉

Over the summer, young people from NE Youth & Youth Focus: North East have helped design and promote a campaign, encouraging other young people to check whether they have money waiting for them in a Child Trust Fund. 💰

If you were born between 1 September 2002 and 2 January 2011, you may have a Child Trust Fund worth hundreds or even thousands of pounds that you've not yet claimed. 👀

If you're a young person aged 16+, a parent, carer, teacher, youth worker or someone who works with young people, please help spread the word and check out the campaign webpage. 🗣️

More devolved funding, more social homes to be built, and more families to be supported. 🤝

We welcome todays significant announcement on social & affordable homes, a huge step forward in delivering the Mayor's Plan for Homes. 🏠

Successful bids include a partnership led consortium from North East Housing Partnership that will unlock 2,533 homes and a further 966 homes to be delivered by Newcastle City Council, as well as others. 🧱

Responding to the announcement, North East Mayor Kim McGuinness said: "Too many North East families are sat on the social housing waiting list, hundreds on children having to live in temporary accommodation, and not enough genuinely affordable homes being built quick enough - today that changes.

"We've secured around £445m for 3,400 houses that will give local families the security of a safe, affordable home and give kids a better start in life than being stuck in temporary accommodation.

"We have an ambitious plan to deliver more than 15,000 social and affordable homes over the next decade, and today's announcement is another important step towards making that happen."

The Care Experienced Scheme has helped young people leaving care travel for free across the North East since 2023, removing a major cost and helping them access opportunities, education and employment. 🤝

has now confirmed the scheme will continue for another year, removing one of the most significant everyday expenses faced by young people leaving care. ✅
