At a Council meeting earlier this week, councillors backed a motion brought by Liberal Democrat councillor Mark Mitchell (and seconded by Lib Dem councillor Greg Stone) to show that Newcastle Stands Up to racism.

The vote means that the Council agrees to reject:

- Any attempts to explain or defend the racist “Great Replacement Theory” and any attempts to use such rhetoric to undermine community relations and cohesion in Newcastle;
- Any attacks on the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI), doing their job saving lives at sea, including on the North East coast;
- Any attacks on other charities, and voluntary organizations based on their names, or to whom they provide service, as they continue their work to provide day to day support in the UK and internationally.

Additionally, the Council calls on every councillor in the Chamber to:
- Stand up for and defend our status as a City of Sanctuary and as a welcoming City of Black and White;
- To condemn and counter anti-immigrant and anti-refugee rhetoric and behaviour wherever it occurs.

Reform councillors abstained on this motion.

LAST WEEK'S LITTER PICK IN BRUNSWICK.
Well, we did it! This was the result of what we believe will be many litter picks that will have a part in getting the village back into being a great place to live in and enjoy. Thanks go, also, to the other folk who joined in but were camera shy. NOTE FOR YOUR DIARY SATURDAY 7TH NOVEMBER 10 AM. Everyone is welcome. After November's litter pick, if you can, stay on after for a coffee and chat. We will have lots of biscuits already!
