🚴 Dartmoor Devil Cycle Ride – Sunday 25 October

Residents may notice cyclists passing through Ashburton on Sunday 25 October as the annual Dartmoor Devil cycle ride takes place.

Up to 200 riders will be taking part, leaving Bovey Tracey in two groups at approximately 8am and 9am. Riders will be well spread out to help avoid bunching.

The first riders are expected to reach the Ashburton area from around 10.15am, with cyclists stopping at the Lavender House Hotel for refreshments between approximately 10.15am and 1.30pm.

The route then continues across Dartmoor, through the Princetown and Widecombe areas, before finishing back in Bovey Tracey.

🚲 Please be aware that you may encounter cyclists on local roads during the day and allow a little extra time for your journey.

🎉 Mayor’s Inaugural Festival

📣 Have your say on Ashburton’s play parks 📣
Teignbridge District Council is asking local communities to share their views on their play parks as part of an assessment for potential funding through a new Play Park Improvement Programme.

Ashburton has five play parks included in the programme:
🛝 The Recreation Ground
🛝 Cleder Place
🛝 Home Park
🛝 Westerbrook Avenue
🛝 Miners Close
🛝 Barnsey Close

We are encouraging Ashburton residents and play park users to take part in TDC’s survey and help highlight the importance of these spaces to our community.

We know many of you have previously been asked for your views on the proposed transfer of town assets from TDC to Ashburton Town Council. Those comments remain valid and do not need to be repeated as part of this survey. This is a separate TDC consultation specifically about play parks, how important they are to the community, how they are used and what improvements people would like to see.

Please take a few minutes to complete TDC’s survey and share your views on:
• How important are Ashburton’s play parks to the town?
• How do you use them?
• What could be improved?
• What would you like to see in the future?

Your feedback will help TDC build a picture of local need and the potential benefits of investment in Ashburton’s play parks, and will help demonstrate the case for funding.

Today we took to the skies! 🚁

The Council carried out inspection work on Ashburton Town Hall today, and thanks to modern technology, one of the quickest, safest and most cost-effective ways to inspect our historic buildings is by using a drone.

Not only does it save time and money, but it also gives us a fantastic bird's-eye view of parts of the building that would otherwise require ladders or specialist access equipment.

Keep an eye out over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing some of the amazing aerial views of the Town Hall and Ashburton that the drone captured! 📸

📹 Drone Filming Notice Reminder
Ashburton Town Council will be carrying out drone filming on the 5th August 2026.
The primary purpose of the flight is to inspect and film the Town Hall roof and bell tower to help assess any repairs that may be required. While the drone is in use, we may also capture footage of the town and its public spaces for use in council communications and promotional materials.
The drone is not intended to film people or private property, and every effort will be made to avoid capturing them. Any footage obtained will be used only by Ashburton Town Council's Clerk's Office for the purposes described above and will be handled in accordance with the Council's data protection policies. Any images or footage containing identifiable individuals that are not required for these purposes will not be retained.
All drone operations will be carried out in accordance with current UK drone regulations, by a fully licenced drone pilot, with every effort made to respect residents' privacy.
