An ancient ceremony that sees men in leather trousers sitting in puddles of beer is returning to Devon in July 🍻

The event has been held since medieval times and while it's official significance has long faded, the annual ceremony still attracts crowds and raises money for good causes ❤️

The annual Ale Tasting and Bread Weighing ceremony in Ashburton celebrates an important role of Ashburton’s ancient court. Each year on the third Saturday in July, this year July 18, 2026, a procession weaves its way through the town with participants dressed in medieval garb - visiting every pub and bakery 😋

Just a post to say we have a road closure in place from 6pm to 8pm on 4th July. The closure starts at East street (from Balland Lane junction) and ends in West Street (all the way to Peartree junction).

🌟 Volunteer Week 2026 🌟

This Volunteer Week, Ashburton Town Council would like to say a huge thank you to all the incredible volunteers who give their time, energy and enthusiasm to support our town.

From the dedicated volunteers in our Information Centre who provide a warm welcome to residents and visitors alike, to the litter pickers who help keep Ashburton looking its best, and those who help organise our town events such as the carnival and remembrance day parade your contributions make a real difference every day.

We would also like to recognise our Town Councillors and the Ashburton Courts, who volunteer their time and commitment to represent the community, make important decisions, and help shape the future of our town.

Whether you give an hour, a day, or many years of service, every contribution helps make Ashburton a cleaner, friendlier and more vibrant place to live, work and visit.

Thank you to each and every one of our volunteers. Ashburton is a stronger community because of you. ❤️
