🚨 Callout, Loch Enoch 🚨

Galloway Mountain Rescue Team was deployed at 0041hrs this morning by Police Scotland to assist four campers in harsh weather conditions at Loch Enoch. Heavy rainfall flooded their campsite, leaving their tents and all their equipment completely soaked through.

Four of our team members jumped into Galloway Delta, made their way to the RV point, and set off on foot, navigating two miles of rough, boggy terrain in brutal conditions to reach them.

When the team arrived, they found all four campers in good spirits (if a bit soggy!). The team helped pack away their drenched gear and escorted them safely back to the vehicles.

The team stood down at 6am.

A fantastic outcome to a tough, late-night callout. Huge thanks to our volunteers for stepping up in the dark when help was needed most! 👏

A very high wildfire warning is in place for Eastern Highlands, Eastern and Southern Scotland from today (Wednesday, 12 August) until Thursday, 13 August.

Everyone should avoid lighting outdoor fires or barbecues. A single spark can cause significant damage, and there is no such thing as a harmless fire.

You can help prevent the risk of wildfires by sharing this post with your family, friends, and any visitors or tourists.

If you see an outdoor fire, call 999 immediately. Give the location and any other relevant information so we can respond quickly.

🚨 VEHICLE / EQUIPMENT STORAGE APPEAL – CASTLE DOUGLAS AREA 🚨

Galloway Mountain Rescue Team is currently seeking secure indoor storage for an operational rescue vehicle/trailer within a 5-mile radius of Castle Douglas.

As a volunteer-run search and rescue team operating 24/7, 365 days a year, keeping our life-saving equipment and response vehicles dry, warm, and ready to deploy at a moment's notice is crucial for our call-outs across Dumfries and Galloway.

What We Are Looking For:

• Location: Within 5 miles of Castle Douglas.

• Type: Secure, indoor storage space (e.g., a garage, barn, outbuilding, or commercial unit).

• Requirements: Mains electricity access (required to keep vehicle batteries charged and response gear ready to go).

• Access: Good access to allow for prompt deployment during emergency call-outs.

If you have a suitable space available, or know a local business, farm, or landowner who might be able to assist, we would love to hear from you!

Please send us a direct message on Facebook with any leads or details.

Thank you for your continued support of Galloway MRT.

Please give this post a share to help us spread the word across the local community!

🚨 Callout | Friday 31st July 🚨

At 03:00 hrs on Friday 31st July, our Drone Team was requested by Police Scotland to assist Moffat Mountain Rescue Team in the search for a missing person in the Mouswald area. A full team callout followed at first light.

Using thermal imaging and AI assisted recognition systems, our drones quickly and methodically searched multiple areas, while team members carried out ground searches in woodland where visibility from the air was limited.

Thankfully, the missing person was located safe and well.

Galloway Mountain Rescue Team is made up entirely of volunteers and relies on public donations to continue providing this vital service. If you’d like to support our work, you can donate here: https://www.paypal.com/gb/fundraiser/charity/4391478

🚵‍♂️ 🚨CALLOUT: Kirroughtree Red Route 🚨🚵‍♀️

Yesterday afternoon at 15:57hrs, Galloway Mountain Rescue Team was deployed by
Police Scotland to assist the Scottish Ambulance Service with an injured mountain biker on the Red Route at Kirroughtree.

Team members dispatched swiftly from Newton Stewart (Lima), joined by Castle Douglas team members in Delta and our Incident Control Vehicle (ICV).

On arrival, paramedics were already assessing the casualty and administering pain relief. Working together, the casualty was packaged safely into a vacuum mattress, transferred to our team stretcher and wheel, and carried approximately 350 metres through forest trail to the awaiting ambulance. 🌲🚑
