👀 Dot watchers, get ready!

Next weekend on 13th June, Galloway Mountain Rescue Team members Ross Mcconchie and James Anderson will be taking on the gruelling Montane Spine MRT Challenger South to raise funds for a vital upgrade to the IT systems in our Incident Control Vehicle (ICV).

Many of you will remember Ross and Karen successfully completing the Spine South last year. James was due to join them but was unfortunately forced to withdraw before the start due to injury. This year, he's back, fully recovered, and ready to take on the challenge alongside Ross.

The ICV is the heart of our operations during mountain rescue incidents. It serves as the command centre for coordinating searches, managing communications, and supporting teams on the ground. During missing person searches in particular, having fast, reliable access to information can be critical.

The planned IT upgrade will help us respond more efficiently and effectively when people need help most, ensuring our volunteers have the tools they need to save lives.

Please join us in supporting Ross and James as they tackle this incredible challenge. Every donation will help strengthen our rescue capability and make a real difference when it matters most.

Please share and like our post 😀

Full-on training day for the team yesterday.

The morning consisted of workshops focusing on stretcher and wheel assembly, along with splinting techniques. Later, the focus shifted to casualty packaging following simulated bike-related injuries and stretcher extractions from uneven ground.

A big thank you to Rocks And Wheels for allowing us access to their new site, particularly the brand-new pump track.

In the afternoon, we headed out to Dalbeattie Forest, where a mountain bike accident scenario involved multiple casualties with chest, leg and shoulder injuries. Putting the morning’s training into practice, the casualties were quickly assessed, treated, packaged and carried by stretcher a short distance to an awaiting vehicle.

Training in these types of conditions is crucial to maintaining and developing our skills, ensuring we are prepared when real incidents occur.

A huge thank you to our volunteer mountain bikers, Alex, Mark and Catherine, for giving up their time and helping make the scenario so realistic.

It’s the generosity of people like them, along with those who support us through donations, that helps keep our team trained, equipped and ready to respond.

If you’d like to support our work, please hit the donate button on this post.

Thanks GMRT

🚨CALLOUT🚨

Date: 29/05/26
Time: 13:41
Location: Carrick Bay

Yesterday at 13:41 hrs, Police Scotland requested the assistance of Galloway Mountain Rescue Team in the search for a suspected missing swimmer at Carrick Bay.

Our drone team was initially deployed to conduct aerial searches along the coastline and assist with the search effort.

Thankfully, the swimmer was located safe and well, and the team was subsequently stood down.

A great opportunity on Monday for some of our Drone & Swift Water Rescue team to showcase our resources and capabilities.

Throughout the evening, team members from Nith Inshore Rescue had the chance to get hands on with our Water Rescue trailer and see the equipment we carry. Our drone team also demonstrated their capabilities, highlighting the technology being used and how it supports search and rescue operations.

It was a valuable evening of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and strengthening partnerships between teams.

A huge thank you to everyone at Nith Inshore Rescue for the hospitality and warm welcome throughout the evening.

At the weekend, our drone team hosted an induction day for other team members who were keen to learn more about what’s involved.

The day included an introduction to the role, along with a hands-on demonstration to showcase how the team operates. Held on the summit of Screel, it gave those attending a real insight into what it’s like to be part of the drone team.

As always, our work relies on the continued support of the public. If you’d like to help us maintain and develop the team, including vital drone capability, any donations are greatly appreciated.
