Fenton Tower

Fenton Tower Fenton Tower is a five-star, exclusive-use private castle situated near Scotland's stunning East Lothian coastline.

Fenton Tower is a magnificent, fortified; 16th Century tower located 18 miles East of Edinburgh near the coastal town of North Berwick. The castle’s location was originally chosen in the 11th Century because it afforded panoramic views in all directions and has had many distinguished visitors, among them being King James VI of Scotland (son of Mary Queen of Scots and Lord Darnley) who took refuge

there as he fled from the rebel army in Fife across the Firth of Forth. The Tower has now been meticulously restored, and opened in 2002 to provide 5-star accommodation for up to 12 guests. Set amongst rolling countryside and surrounded by many of the worlds’ most famous golf courses (Muirfield, Gullane & North Berwick) Fenton Tower is the perfect base for a magnificent golfing experience. The location of the Tower makes it ideal for all kinds of country, sporting and recreational activities. Arrangements for parties of up to eight guns for Grouse, Partridge and Pheasant shooting, as well as fly fishing on the rivers Tweed and Tyne can be arranged. With horse riding, archery, and 5-star local attractions (including The National Museum of Flight, home to Concorde, and the Scottish Seabird Centre) all within a stones-throw of the Castle, your visit to East Lothian will be one you will want to repeat.

A stay at Fenton offers rather more than a place to rest your head after a round of golf.

History, hospitality, time in the field, excellent food, and the comfort of returning somewhere with real character at the end of the day all come together here.

Our thanks to Alan for sharing a little more of the Fenton story, and to Bonnie Wee Golf for such kind words on what makes the experience so special.

One of the questions many guests ask when planning a Scotland trip is how to see plenty without spending the entire holiday in the car.

East Lothian makes a very good case for itself.

Coastline, countryside, golf, historic places, and Edinburgh, all within easy reach, make this part of Scotland particularly appealing for a shorter stay. There is enough to fill the days beautifully, without ever making the trip feel overplanned.

May in Scotland does occasionally like to give a glimpse of what is to come.

A bit of sunshine, longer days, and every excuse to spend more time outdoors while it lasts.

A Bank Holiday weekend calls for lunch outdoors.

A table set in the sunshine, something delicious cooking on the fire table and views out across the East Lothian hills. A very good way to spend an extra day off.

After an overnight flight, there is much to be said for beginning gently.

A short journey from Edinburgh, time to settle in, and the following morning, a full Scottish breakfast to start the day properly.

A truly delicious way to begin your trip.

For those drawn to time in the field, Fenton Brunt offers a shooting experience of real calibre.

Set on the edge of the Lammermuir Hills near Dunbar, the estate is known for its outstanding high bird environment, with partridge, pheasant and some duck shooting, as well as clay-pigeon shooting in the off-season. It is also just 45 minutes from Edinburgh Airport, which makes it especially well-suited to guests travelling from further afield.

A memorable day in the field, followed by the comfort of returning to Fenton. The perfect pairing if you ask us.

The appeal of staying somewhere historic is obvious enough. What guests do not always expect is just how comfortable it can be.

All the character, atmosphere, and story one might hope for, paired with the warmth and thoughtful detail that make it remarkably easy to settle in. A historic stay, yes, but not one that asks you to sacrifice comfort for the sake of it.
