๐ RAILWAY 200 GALA - 23rd, 25th & 26th October ๐
Join us as we join in the nationwide Railway 200 celebrations with our biggest gala to-date
featuring five heritage steam and diesel locomotives hauling trains across the weekend.
๐ฃ๏ธ TALKS - Thursday 23rd (6pm onwards)
The gala will be preceded by two evening talks on early railway history by local railway historians Rob Langham and Les Turnbull. The talks will be held in front of none other than 1816-built Killingworth Billy, the oldest standard gauge locomotive in existence.
๐ IN THE MUSEUM - Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th
Throughout the weekend youโll be able to find out more about the past, present and future of rail travel in our region by visiting a variety of stalls from local railway history groups such as the North Eastern Railway Association, NELPG and the Mining & Mechanical Institute, as well as the Tyne & Wear Metro, ASLEF and RMT.
๐ค๏ธ ON THE RAILWAY - Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th
Weโll be running the busiest timetable on our railway in preservation with every operational locomotive, carriage and wagon operating over the weekend. Two steam locomotives, Peckett โAshington No.5โ and Bagnall No.401, will be in action with a supporting cast of our three diesel locomotives hauling a variety of passenger and demonstration freight trains with non-stop railway action across both days.
