PLEASE NOTE: this week, you may find that you experience some downtime when using the North Lincolnshire Libraries app or online renewals, catalogue and events platform via browser. You may be unable to sign in or access services.

This is because we are updating our system, which includes the app and online customer platform.

We are scheduled to get everything back online very soon, but in the meantime, please contact us at [email protected] for information or assistance.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused. We would also like to remind everyone that we no longer charge fines, so please don't worry if your books become overdue or if you receive automated overdue reminders as a result of this transition.

The Vermuyden400 exhibition - charting the history and legacy of the C17th Drainage - will be unavailable to view in Crowle for the next few days. It is going to visit the Lincolnshire Show on Wednesday and Thursday, so we have had to move it in preparation for that.

It will be back in Crowle Library/Hub at the end of next week.

Anthony McGowan

It’s the National Year of Reading, and to celebrate we are offering families a great opportunity to be involved with a free author talk.

Ashby Community Hub: Monday 29 June 4.30pm
Brigg Community Hub: Tuesday 30 June 4.30pm

We are delighted to welcome Carnegie Medal winning author Anthony McGowan back to North Lincolnshire. Anthony joined us during National Storytelling Week earlier this year to launch the National Year of Reading.

Anthony will talk about his new novel, ‘Birdlands’.

All welcome. Each event will last for approximately an hour and is suitable for children aged between 6 and 16 and their families.

This is a free event, but places are limited. Please book a place for everyone who will be attending by emailing [email protected]

Do you know someone who might appreciate a bit of gentle encouragement to develop a reading habit?

Libraries in Yorkshire & Humber have got together to develop the "Read On" app. It works a bit like the well-known "Couch to 5k" scheme for physical fitness, and is designed to engage, encourage and support people to develop the habit of reading for pleasure. Users can track their daily reading (as little as 10 minutes a day can make a difference), set themselves goals, take quizzes, achieve milestones and receive recommendations chosen by library staff.

The app is also suitable for people who already read regularly.
*
Reading for pleasure is vital for reducing stress, maintaining mental and emotional wellbeing, and improving our life chances (whatever age we are). It doesn't matter what we read, it's the pleasure we get from it that's important.
*
To try the app out, search for "read on reading habit" to be sure you get the right one. This one is completely free and ad-free, and is branded as in our picture.

The winner of this year's Women's Prize for Fiction has been announced:

'The correspondent' by Virginia Evans

Composed of letters to friends, family and real-life authors, 'The correspondent' is an uplifting and moving novel that confronts the hubris of youth with the wisdom of older age. Through her 73-year-old protagonist Sybil Van Antwerp’s connection with the written word, Evans considers the choices we make, those we regret and unexpected second chances.'

'The correspondent' is available to reserve from any of our libraries, and also as an e book and e audio from Borrowbox.
