September is just around the corner, and squadrons across Central & East Yorkshire Wing are getting ready to welcome their next intake of cadets.

If you’re aged 12 and in Year 8 or above, the Royal Air Force Air Cadets could be your chance to try something completely different. From flying and gliding to fieldcraft, shooting, first aid, sport, leadership, cyber, STEM and adventurous training, there’s far more to get involved with than you might expect.

Most of our squadrons recruit new cadets around September, so now is a great time to find your nearest unit and make contact.

Please join us as we celebrate the life of Flt Lt Andy Lees, a life very well lived and a man who helped introduce generations of young people to the joy of flying. ❤️✈️

Andy was a gliding instructor with 635 Volunteer Gliding Squadron for several decades, supporting thousands of Air Cadets as they learned to fly. Over the years, his gliding career took him to RAF Burtonwood, BAe Samlesbury and RAF Topcliffe, leaving countless cadets with memories of their first experiences in the air.

Lilian and Nicola have asked that this be a celebration, not a day for mourning. A buffet will be served later in the day, with tea and coffee for the designated drivers and, fittingly, rum tots so we can all raise a glass to Andy. And because Andy should be celebrated with a bit of colour, the dress code is Caribbean or Hawaiian shirts. The brighter, the better! 🌺🌴

The family would love everyone to bring along any photographs they have of Andy. ❤️🥃✈️
