Still confused about the Government's new Allergy Safety in Schools policy, how it links to Benedict's Law and what it actually means for your school?

Don't panic. We're hosting a free NYES Connect webinar where we'll be breaking down this guidance into clear steps, covering essential requirements around food allergen awareness, safe food provision, and the management of anaphylaxis.

This session will support you in understanding your responsibilities as a school, where accountability sits and how existing policies and procedures may need to be reviewed and strengthened.

This session will be delivered by NYES Catering's Training and Compliance Manager, Karen Breckon, and Senior Training and Learning Officer, Alana Miles. At the end of the session, there will be time for questions, giving you the opportunity to discuss any areas you'd like further guidance on.

A huge congratulations to everyone who has received their exam results over the past week, and the very best of luck to those awaiting their GCSE results tomorrow!

You've put in the hard work, now take the time to celebrate your achievements and enjoy the results.

We also want to say a big thank you to everyone working behind the scenes to support students and pupils in schools. From the teachers who provide guidance and encouragement in every lesson, to the catering teams who keep students fuelled throughout the day, and the cleaning staff who help create welcoming schools and classrooms. There are countless people who play a part in helping young people succeed.

We're proud to work alongside schools throughout the year, supporting the vital work they do and helping to create the best possible learning environments.

To all those who work tirelessly to support schools and help students achieve their very best, thank you.

It truly takes a village.

Be honest... how many times did you swipe between these photos?

Because we've lost count.

This school hall floor has seen years of assemblies, PE lessons, performances and school events. But after some care, attention and a lot of hard work, it's ready to welcome pupils back once again. There's something incredibly satisfying about seeing a space restored to its former glory.

A huge well done to our NYES Cleaning colleagues for bringing this floor back to life!

Last week, NYES Catering held their Area Supervisors' Development Day. It was fantastic to welcome so many members of the team from across the business for a day of learning, collaboration and development.

The day focused on service excellence, legislative updates, business priorities and training developments. The team also explored key areas for supporting and strengthening our catering services as we prepare for the new academic term.

One of the highlights of the day was the 'Cooking with Kath' session, where the team created a range of delicious dishes, put their catering skills into practice and learned some new techniques along the way.... After which, everyone was more than happy to sample the results and enjoy a well-earned lunch together!

The team also came together for a celebratory photograph to mark their success at the Public Sector Awards back in April.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to another successful Development Day!

𝐍𝐘𝐄𝐒 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰!

Today, our very own Kath Breckon took to the Game Stage at the Great Yorkshire Show, showcasing the creativity, quality, and innovation behind NYES Catering.

On the menu were some incredible dishes, including:
Great Yorkshire Smoky Pulled Venison Wrap with Proper Gravy – a Yorkshire classic with a modern twist.
Sticky Yorkshire Venison Bao with pickled vegetables and garlic drizzle.
Spiced Game Taco with citrus-fennel slaw and curried mayo.

Later in the day, Kath took to the Main Stage, where she showcased the following dishes:
The Yorkshire Dog – a caramelised Yorkshire cheddar bun with harissa ketchup and citrus mustard.
Hot Honey Glazed Salmon Taco with mango slaw.
Spiced Beef Kofta Flatbread topped with crispy chickpeas and a garlic & coriander drizzle.

During the cooking demonstrations, Kath shared expert tips on reducing food waste, making smart recipe swaps, creating on-trend dishes from scratch, and getting the very best from every ingredient.

Speaking about the day, Kath said:
"It is an honour to be asked to showcase what we do in the public sector, especially around education catering. "

What a fantastic showcase of local ingredients, sustainable cooking, and the innovation used in creating the dishes being served in our NYES Catering schools!

The government has now concluded the long-awaited results of its consultation, ‘Supporting pupils with medical conditions at school’ and published the new statutory guidance, ‘Allergy Safety in Schools’.

The campaign that has led to this law being put in place has been driven by the family of Benedict Blythe, who was five years old when he tragically died from anaphylaxis at school in 2021.

What does this mean for your school? From September 2026 schools in England must:
✅ Have a whole-school allergy policy
✅ Provide allergy awareness training for all staff
✅ Stock spare adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs) for emergency use for any child or adult experiencing symptoms of anaphylaxis
✅ Put Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs) in place for pupils with allergies.

In the below article, we break down this new guidance into its key sections, helping you clearly understand what is required of your school or education setting to ensure your staff are confident, informed and compliant ➡️ https://nyes.info/Article/190826
