Winnington and Castle - CWAC Cllrs

Winnington and Castle - CWAC Cllrs page for the CWAC Labour Councillors for Winnington and Castle. Councillors Arthur Neil and Felicity Davies. This creates a considerable workload.

Arthur and myself were elected as the councillors for Winnington and Castle. We are CWAC councillors which means we support residents with any issues related to the council - Cheshire West and Chester. Our primary role is to deal with what’s often called ‘casework’. In other words - any queries or problems local people bring to us that they need help with. We receive a high number of queries via e

mail, facebook and phone on a variety of issues. We also, when possible and relevant, elevate important issues in the ward to the right individuals within the council. In this respect we are advocates for local issues.

This is a major update and positive news for those in the community that are against the solar farm development and associated HGV movements. It is not the solar farm that is the issue here - it is the lorry movements of soil needed to build the platform along with concerns of existing toxicity at the site.

Toxic Free Tomorrow have been working for nearly a year now to hold the developer to account about this development. It has been a huge learning curve for everyone involved and it has been good to be able to support and be involved with this group in our capacity as councillors.

Sometimes it's the little things that make a big difference. This issue of overgrowth on Heysom's Avenue has been longstanding in our ward and after persistence from us it has now been resolved.

The council have many different priorities. Part of our role is to raise issues that are important for people in the area. We get queries on a weekly basis and raise all of them with the council. Some take longer to resolve than others but we always listen and elevate any issues that come our way.

Thank you to the highways team for sorting this.

Do you have an idea for a project in Winnington and Castle? (this is a bit of a long post but please read if you do!)

There are two funding streams available for local projects.

**1. Councillor Member's Budget**

Arthur and I have £5000 each to spend on local projects over the course of this year. In previous years we have used this to fund projects such as a sensory room at Darwin Community Primary School and a fire pit for the fantastic Bugz and Bunnies close to Moss Farm. If you have an idea please go to the following link for further details. (You need to have a constitution and a bank account but if these are not available it may be we can find a partnering organisation to hold the funds on your behalf).

**2. SpaceHive Funding**

This is a bigger amount of funding and uses crowd funding as part of the process. Visit the website for further details and examples of projects. https://www.spacehive.com/movement/cwc/projects

There is also an information event on Wednesday 29th April for people to find out more.

Please get in touch if need any assistance. There are already some fantastic projects coming through.

Informal Dual Consultation Event *Saturday 18th April 10 - 12*

Winnington Parklands & Northwich and District Youth and Community Centre.

Both these places are well loved and used and both could do with some TLC.

We are at present having conversations with council officers about how to improve the well used Winnington Parklands. We would like to hold an informal consultation on the 18th April for people to share those views as to what, if anything, Winnington Parklands needs. Would you like some more trees planted? Or perhaps a wildflower meadow or willow sculpture trail.

It might be that you think its fabulous as it is and it shouldn't be improved at all!

Please come along and let us know. We will also post on here after the event if anyone would like to email or comment digitally.

This is a JOINT consultation with Northwich and District Youth Centre. They have some really brilliant plans in the pipeline to improve the centre and would also like to know exactly what people want.

Hopefully see you there if you can make it.

Arthur and I want to do some bulb planting in Autumn across Winnington and Castle and are working with Northwich Town Council to source a bulk of bulbs. Is there anywhere you'd like us to focus on? Let us know so we can plan. We hope to do this on a day anyone can get invovled and help us plant them.

We report every issue we receive from residents to the council. Some are easy to sort whereas others are more complex.

The council are currently trying to sort all paths after Winter across the borough and this is one in our ward they recently did (thanks to the resident who also flagged this).

We had a mini opening of the steps near Highfield Road a few weeks ago. This was a really difficult issue to resolve given ambiguity around land ownership. We managed to get it sorted though and want to clear this path too.

This path is really well used and definitely worth a wander down if you are going from Castle into Northwich. There's a lovely view of the town too with a viewing platform from the Vale Royal days.

Thank you Stuart and Terry for raising this and helping. And thanks to Paul and NTC for carrying out the work. (Thanks also to Graham and Lee for raising too!)
